weid14 0 #1 April 6, 2002 I got a Mirage Unisyn and I noticed that the chest rings promote a more even harness loading on deployment, judging from how my velocity behaves from one container to the other (regular G3 vs. Unisyn). the downside is you can't load the canopy with harness inputs, but since I liek the idea of better behaved openings, that's not a bad thing. Anyone else notice this? I was over there the other day, mentioned it, and they agreed, so I guess it's not my imagination.I do really like the Unisyn, too, very comfortable around the shoulder/chest area. Makes those gymnastic type 4way exits a little easier to contort.
polarbear 1 #2 April 6, 2002 Interesting...I specifically asked mirage systems if the Unisyn harness inhibited the ability to steer the canopy with the harness, and they said no. I'm not sure if I believe that.I do agree it is very comfortable. I like mine.
Kirils 1 #3 April 6, 2002 I'll stick with my G-3. I demo'd a Uni in January and it was extremely comfortable and flexable... a sky dancers dream. For swoopers, I think the articulated harness inhibits controlinput to the risers. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
weid14 0 #4 April 6, 2002 I dont' think it prevents it, you just have to learn how to make it work, like anything else I suppose.
polarbear 1 #5 April 6, 2002 Yeah. I didn't say PREVENT, just inhibit.
eames 0 #6 April 9, 2002 I have two Mirage G3 UNISYNs-- I have to disagree that the UNISYN makes it harder to do harness turns. I have absolutely no problem doing harness turns on my G3 with my Xaos. It's just as easy as it has been on ANY other harness/container system I've used: Racers, VIIIs, Reflexs, Javelins....Why would the addition of the rings inhibit harness input? The jumpers weight is still held by the leg straps, then the lift web, then the risers, then the lines, then the canopy. They didn't add a bungee section on the lift webbing to absorb harness input... just a couple metal rings.Jason
weid14 0 #7 April 9, 2002 because adding a flex point in the chest allows more freedom of movement in the harness. The three rings are trying to stay level and if you pressure one side, the harness moves with you to try to maintain that level. You've gotten used to it, as I'm sure others have, I was able to do a direct comparison with the same size canopy with and without rings, and I noticed a difference. eames 0 #8 April 10, 2002 Try loosening your chest strap a little more. If you take the pressure off the chest strap you'll eliminate the equalization effect. I loosen my chest strap all the way and haven't noticed ANY difference between the G3 and other rigs. Like I said before, I've also done a direct comparison with other rigs, and they were no different.Jason
weid14 0 #9 April 10, 2002 yup, I agree, I was more talking about openings, where I wouldn't have a loose chest strap to begin with. a straighter harnessline and lower chest strap tension will help the harness steering.
eames 0 #10 April 10, 2002 Gotcha. Yep. Probably more of any issue with openings. You know, openings have been really easy to control on my UNISYNs. I don't really know what to attribute it to. Maybe to the canopy, Xaos' open really nicely. I wonder if the fully articulated harness really helps that much? I wonder how openings on Voodoo, Javelin Odyssey and other fully articulated harness systems compare with identical canopies? I was only paying attention to full flight characteristics when I jumped other non-articulated harnesses.Jason
