scotts 0 #1 March 30, 2002 I noticed after my last jump that my slider grommets have line grooves in them. This rig has about 75 jumps since new. My question, is this normal? Would it be safe to either scotchbrite or sand out any rough spots? Should I get a new slider or have the grommets replaced? The grooves are fairly deep and I have microlines. quade 4 #2 March 30, 2002 Please show this to your rigger immediately.Brass is softer than stainless, but in either case there shouldn't be any grooves caused just by deploying 75 times. If things are as you say they are, then something is definately wrong. Please let us know what your rigger says about it.quadehttp://futurecam.com
PhreeZone 20 #3 March 30, 2002 Don't jump the canopy again till an experienced rigger looks it over. This could be big problems on the lines.....I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 March 31, 2002 Doesn't sound right at all. Get someone to take a look. When you participate in sporting events, its not whether you win or loose, its how drunk you get.
scotts 0 #5 April 1, 2002 today i had 2 riggers look at it and both said while it's not common, it's not uncommon either. right now that is the least of my worries. i now have a complete canopy problem.
Hooknswoop 19 #6 April 1, 2002 Is therre only 75 jumps on the canopy? What is the new problem? What kind of gromments does you slider have, what type of lines? What kind of canopy is it?Hook
billvon 3,092 #7 April 1, 2002 >I noticed after my last jump that my slider grommets have line grooves in them.> This rig has about 75 jumps since new.So this main, including lines and slider, has less than 75 jumps? Odd.> My question, is this normal? Some polishing/marking of the surface - possible with brass sliders. It's also possible that dirt has accumulated on the grommets, and that an area has been kept clean by the line motion. But deep grooves? That's a problem.>Would it be safe to either scotchbrite or sand out any rough spots? Should I get> a new slider or have the grommets replaced? I would check:1. Slider bumpers - dents are more likely than grooves.2. Lines. If they're full of abrasives (sand, dirt, silt) it can wear a slider faster, but that's really rare.3. Slider bumpers at the canopy end. They are round washers sewn into the canopy near the outer line attach points. Make sure they haven't worn through the fabric. If it's just dirt you may get away with just cleaning the grommets. At worst you may need a new line set and a new slider, along with some new bumpers.-bill von
quade 4 #8 April 1, 2002 Would it be possible for you to take a photo and post it?I'm really interested in what this actually looks like.If you can, please place a dime or ruler right next to the grommet and take this as full frame and up close as possible. I'd really like to see the detail of the grooves.quadehttp://futurecam.com
