dewey 0 #1 March 18, 2002 I am looking at new used gear. I asked around and was told I should buy a 175 - Triathlon. I weight a little less than 180 fully geared. I found a great deal on a Javelin J2 (without main) and wanted some opinions.I've been jumping a Navigator 210 at the DZ (rental equip) and have no problems with control/landing. I want the smallest I can get while sitll being safe.
rhino 0 #2 March 18, 2002 Triathlon is a great first canopy... Shouldn't do you wrong..Semper Fi !!!!!http://www.aahit.com
skybytch 273 #3 March 18, 2002 Worry more about being safe than having the smallest possible rig...Based only on your body weight and assuming that is your first rig I'd say a Tri 175 would be a good choice... can you get ahold of a 190 for 5-10 jumps before you jump it? That would be the safest way to go from the Navigator you are jumping to a Tri 175.Before you buy that container you should know that the J2 is designed to fit a 150 zp main; it may be possible to put a 175 in it in some places, but in most of the world (and assuming that this is your first rig) you will HATE packing it. You'd be better off getting a J3, which was designed to fit a 170 zp main.pull and flare, lisa
dpapuga 0 #4 March 18, 2002 I checked out Javelin's website and they say a 175 will fit. Am I wrong? They guy who owns it jumped a Monarch 175 in it.
PhreeZone 20 #5 March 18, 2002 Speaking from experience, I jump a J2, a 170 seven cell is the largest you can pack and thats stuffing it in there. My Spectre 170 was bulging and ugly. My 9 cell 150 is a really tight fit. My demo 135 9 cell was a tad loose. Over all... If I had a 175 main... I'd be getting a J3.I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB
Kirils 1 #6 March 18, 2002 Assembling a rig out of used components can be a real nightmare. The good deal on the Jav is just one piece.Try to get a used rig that comes complete with componentsthat have been used all together. If you opt to buy the Jav, get a rigger to help you choose the rest of the stuff. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
dpapuga 0 #7 March 18, 2002 This was a complete rig minus the Monarch 175. Everything else is with it. I just want to put a Tri-175 into it.
dpapuga 0 #8 March 18, 2002 I sent an email to a rigger over SunPath this is what they said:A Triathlon 175 will fit into J2 but it will be tight. If it is an older one with a few jumps it will be a little easier for you.I hope this helps you out. If you have any further questions, please feel free to e-mail me at any time. billvon 3,099 #9 March 18, 2002 >Assembling a rig out of used components can be a real nightmare. I have to disagree on this. It's pretty straightforward. Things have to fit, of course (i.e. you have to have the right D-bag for the rig) but swapping canopies, risers, pilot chutes etc. isn't very difficult.-bill von
