dewey 0 #1 March 12, 2002 I just wanted to know if anybody has anything good to say about Monarch mains. I bought a used rig with one in it and from everything I heard I'm gonna swap it out with Triathlon-175 before I even have the reserve packed.Any Thoughts? PhreeZone 20 #2 March 12, 2002 Look at the original Sabre reviews. The Monarch competed head to head against it when they were the hot ticket. Basically... 9 cell, ZP, rectangular, good landings, stable flight. Openings on my few jumps on one was similar to the original Sabre. Most the time good but every once and a while.... whoa! Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 March 12, 2002 Look in the gear reviews. I wrote my opinion on the Monarch there about two years ago. I owned two 135's; both spanked my ass relentlessly but flew very nice. My webpage HERE
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 March 12, 2002 I used to jump a 175 at around 1.5, it used open pretty qickly and slam me once in a while. Probably down to poor packing techniques. But reading the other reviews and speaking to a chum that had a 155, it may have been down to design. My one eventually disintegrated over Vichy in 2000, I would not have another one due to the opening characteristics, it flew pretty well though and in my experience would out fly, and out surf similarly loaded sabres. YMMV. The sabre had a 'crisper' handling.I jump a spectre now, and really appreciate the openings, talk about chalk and cheese!. Wishing you soft and fluffy openingsDPS I agree with Chucks review in the gear section which I just read, I must have had an 'older' model.
TEB6363 0 #5 March 13, 2002 I like my Monarch. It flys fast, it flys slow, a pretty good sport canopy. I did have a few "brisk" openings, All I can say is roll the nose and Psycho Pack the thing.I recently had a younger guy who jumps a crossfire say, "yes, I think a bunch of old timers still jump Monarchs." ---Well I otta, Just hold me back, I'll get you you whipper snapper!!!!:::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!
polarbear 1 #6 March 14, 2002 My first main was a Monarch 215 at 1.0 wingloading. It did open hard, but it flew very nicely...I agree that it will out-surf a sabre. I would take a Monarch over a triathlon (but that's me). You can check out my review if you like.
rapper4mpi 0 #7 March 14, 2002 This is only coming from what my rigger told me once about the Monarch. He said that they had a higher rate of malfunctions. Again, I'm just passing on what I heard.-Rap
