Pocket on Safire 129

Recommended Posts

I had Adventure Sports Loft at Perris put a pocket on the slider of my Safire 129 this weekend, and it looks like it worked just about perfectly - when packing for hard openings I get hard openings, when packing for soft I get a good snivel. I only have two jumps on it so far so I'll have to wring it out a bit more before I pronounce it cured. Interestingly, when I measured my slider and they compared it to the demo Safire 129 they had, my slider was an inch narrower.
I talked with some people in the loft who seemed to reinforce my opinion that Icarus canopies are pretty good canopies overall but are inconsistent - some open fine, some open hard, some snivel, some land well and some need line mods. So far mine seems to fly and land fine - hopefully this pocket will fix the openings as well.

Yep, tried it, and half a dozen other tricks. By taking a lot of care I could get it to open firmly - not painful, but not exactly the kind of opening I'd want with a camera. The pocket was primarily so I wouldn't have to take an extra 10 minutes packing the thing.

You must be right about getting a good one or a bad one. I dont do ANYTHING with the nose or anything. I just pack it and jump it and it gives about a 600-800' snivel. I dont even really know how to modify the openings so I dont try. It opens good enough for me.
Glad to hear the pocket helps.
