skip 0 #1 March 11, 2002 Hey I'm looking into bying used gear soon, and I have chosen a Sabre 170 as my first choice in mains. Today I came across this add.http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/page.cgi?g=New/2002-03-11.html&d=1 What kinds of things should I be asking about this canopy? It is 10 years old and has been damaged, should this defer my intrest. Now I make decient money and was fully planning on spending 900+ on my main, so the small price on this sabre is not a determinig factor, I was just curious about it.I have a month or three until I actually purchase any gear, I just wanted to get some feedback for this is the first time I have done this and well I just don't know. Here are some Pictureshttp://plaza.ufl.edu/tomblin/sabre/sabre.htmand here is repair invoices from PDhttp://plaza.ufl.edu/tomblin/sabre/PDrep.htmThanks. .:skip
PhreeZone 20 #2 March 11, 2002 If its a factory repair job, trust the work. If its a rigger patch, you might ask to have it inspected unless you know the rigger. The age on a canopy does'nt matter if it was taken care of during its years. Personally.... it looked to be in decent condition based on the pictures and PD just relined it so based on its price, its not a bad deal. Just ask your rigger to confirm its contition if you are unsure.Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
skybytch 273 #3 March 11, 2002 That's a good price. Only question I'd have is how many jumps total are on it. If the repairs were done by PD you can be sure they were done right. If it has less than 1000 jumps on it I'd buy it; considering the new line set you can figure on easily getting another 300-500 jumps out of it minimum.pull and flare,lisa--I'll be in the bar... you'll find me... skymedic 0 #4 March 11, 2002 Talking to Bushman at the Winter Expo...he said PD has some canopy's out there with close to 4000+ jumps on them...with only the center cells replaced on them....and these are canopy's that have been jumped in Eloy and perris......the reason they have had to replace the center cell is due to sweat from packing...marcBSBD
skycat 0 #5 March 11, 2002 One of the JMs at my DZ has over 3000 jumps on his saber 135, put a new lineset on it and said it's good to go for another 1000. Not joking on that 1000 part he put 1500 jumps on his last lineset, and he's a rigger.
tomblin 0 #6 March 12, 2002 I'm the seller of this canopy. I bought this canopy not knowing how many jumps were on it, although I believe it is well under a thousand jumps as the canopy was kept in storage by the original owner (DZO of Skydive Williston) for quite a while. The repairs were done by PD, and they thought it was worth my while to spend the $450 (including the re-line) on them. I set my asking price low knowing that someone would be weary of buying a patched canopy.Ben T.
skybytch 273 #7 March 12, 2002 Quotehas over 3000 jumps on his saber 135I believe it. My Spectre has over 1200 jumps on it, multiple patches, 300+ on the lines, and I fully expect to be able to get at least 800 more out of the canopy and 100+ more out of the lines that are on it. It flies and flares great right now.pull and flare,lisa--I'll be in the bar... you'll find me...

SkymonkeyONE 4 #10 March 12, 2002 Ben,I completely understand what you are talking about when it comes to selling gear. My wife and I liquidated a ton of our older gear about over the past two years and I so no reason to hose people. I set the prices very low and was fascinated to find that I got very few bites initially. After a time, I raised the asking prices for some of the combinations and found that I got more calls and the gear sold right away. I still sold the gear for the original, very low prices, but just had to laugh.Chuck My webpage HERE
tomblin 0 #11 March 12, 2002 I've gotten so much response from this ad I posted late sunday night, that it's only tuesday morning and I'm gonna have to remove it until I can sort through it all.I've enjoyed every experience I've had with the classifieds here at dz.com. I've bought one main from them, and am in the process of buying a container and reserve.Gotta love it.....Ben
