LawnDart21 0 #1 February 25, 2002 First jump on Sunday, I pitch at 4000ft (thinking I'll just play with my canopy). I look back to see my PC go straight up, pulling out my bridal. My bridal extends, and then I wait to see the bag come off my back, as I always do. Only this time, no bag off my back........I'm falling past 3500ft, no problem, plenty of atitude, I start wiggling my hips and bang the side of the container and "poof" off comes the dbag, nice open, and I'm sittig in around 2600. I check the closing loop when I get down, and it's 21psi, which is not too tight from what I have been told. Next jump, I dump at 4200ft, and again, voila, same scenario. I'm sitting in at 2700ft. I've been using the same packer for like, 200 jumps and she is great, never had any problems. Well, we replaced the closing loop and I haven't had any problems, but the fact that I can't pinpoint what caused the repeated "inconvience" is kind of bothering me. The only thing that I can think of is that I went from a used airlocked 120, to a brand new airlocked 120 (same model) and that the newer fabric is just more volume in the bag pushing against the pin. Any thoughts?"I live to EFS"Tom
riggerrob 643 #2 February 25, 2002 Check your bridle routing. You may be inadvertently stuffing it past the corner of the stiffener in the bottom flap. When the bridle catches on the corner of the stiffener, it hesitates. Not to worry, it usually clears about the time you peel the Velcro on your cutaway handle! Ha! Ha!The short term solution is to stuff less bridle under the right side flap. The long term solution is to sew on an extra bridle-hiding-flap similar to the latest Javelins. This flap will prevent you from stuffing the bridle too deep.
tlshealy 0 #3 February 26, 2002 Tom,You may also want to check your pilot chute if it's a kill line, spectra kill lines can shrink, making your pilot chute slowly lose it's pull force after you cock it.Tad
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 February 26, 2002 Twists in the bridle when you cock the p/c can affect it as well (so I've been told anyway) You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
MrHixxx 0 #5 February 26, 2002 This is one of the reasons I transitioned from a throw-out BOC to a pull-out with a pudhandle. The pin is out once the pilot chute is out in the airstream and all it has to do is pull it off your back. I know changing your deployment system is kinda drastic, but I am really glad I did. It is a much more positive deployment method for sub terminal stuff.-Hixxx"Sous ma tub, Dr. Suess ma tub"
AggieDave 6 #6 February 26, 2002 You can also try packing neater/tighter, leaving you with less pressure on your closing loop. (Although it seems that every time I pack neatly, I have a crappy opening. "And who are you?""I'm...Batman..."
