BadDog 0 #1 February 25, 2002 Is the Chute Shop Decelerator reserve legal in the U.S. (has it been TSOed)?CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 February 25, 2002 One of my friends jumps one of these and he's been abroad a few times and never had any problems with it. You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
riggerrob 643 #3 February 25, 2002 He can leagally jump a Decelerator reserve in the USA provided the Decelerator is approved in his homeland. This means that South Africans, Canadians and most Europeans can legally jump Decelerators in the USA.However, an American citizen cannot legally jump a Decelerator in the USA. He has to go overseas - or at least to Canada - to jump a Decelerator.Talk about silly laws!
BadDog 0 #4 February 26, 2002 Actually, the question is can a U.S. rigger repack one in the U.S. legally?CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
riggerrob 643 #5 February 26, 2002 Yes, an FAA rigger can legally repack a Defender reserve in the USA because the Defender manual includes a letter from the FAA saying that Defenders are approved under TSO C23 - whatever.
lippy 918 #6 February 26, 2002 Not to be ignorant, but what's a decelerator? Just a different type of reserve, or something else all together?Live to Jump, Pull to Live,Lippy
Geoff 0 #7 February 26, 2002 Basically it's just another type of reserve, though I'm sure it has some unique features that the designer is very proud of.Geoff
SkydiveMonkey 0 #8 February 26, 2002 isn't the decelerator a zp reserve? You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
5.samadhi 0 #9 December 15, 2011 bumping this old thread, I just randomly saw it searching for decelerator. Can anybody put my mind to ease about this issue? I just bought a used decelerator for my rig Im putting back together to become current. I had no idea this was an issue. They ARE legal to jump inside the USA, right? the reserve is TSO'ed to TSO-C23d and is is 8 years old.
