mountainman 0 #1 February 12, 2002 Hey all. I am looking at getting some SLINKs for my canopy and would like your opinions of it. I need to either get these or get some bumpers on that metal ring and the thing around it. So, do you like them? Worth it?Also, a couple of other questions. Can I install them by myself or do I need a rigger? How much do they cost to put them on my main canopy? Thanks all! JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook. tigra 0 #2 February 13, 2002 First, I think PD Slinks are for PD canopies only- I'm almost positive that applies to reserve Slinks, but I'm not sure about mains. I have "slinks" on my sabre, my spectre, and the reserve in my wings container. The PD Slinks are reusable soft links, and are not difficult to install. But, if you aren't familiar with hooking a canopy up to risers, then have a rigger do it or at least check your work. Shouldn't be too expensive for either the soft links or the riggers help. What did your canopy come with? Isn't your rig all put together already? If so, you can just have your rigger change to the slinks next time you need a repack. mountainman 0 #3 February 13, 2002 My rig came with those metal rings. I dont think those are for PD only. I think they are just made by them. I have talked to some people who have had them on theirs.Just curious. THanks!JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 February 13, 2002 From what I've heard - Slinks can be used on any main canopy, but only reserve canopies that have been tested with them (even though they outperform the metal links). You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
SniperCJ 0 #5 February 13, 2002 Ive had slinks on my Diablo and my Safire before that. Theyre easy to install but like someone said before, get someone to check your work. It can be done wrong. Theyre easy to remove and re-install if you get another canopy. It also makes it easier to get the slider down over the risers.Be sure to include them in your rig inspections and replace them if they get worn.BluesCJ
lazerq3 0 #6 February 13, 2002 I have slinks on my canopy and I think there great!!!!! My DZ sells them for 25$ but my DZO said that he has a box full of them and just give them away if needed. So check to see if your DZ have any laying around. There not to complicated to install but I would have a rigger go throught it with you the first time!! I recomend them but then again who am I jason
skybytch 273 #7 February 13, 2002 QuoteMy rig came with those metal rings.Your main canopy came with metal "connector links"... PD SLinks can legally be used on any main. Reserve SLinks can only be used on PD reserves according to PD, although I have heard that Precision and possibly one other canopy manufacturer say it's okay to use them on their reserves; check with the canopy manufacturer before installing SLinks on your reserve if it's not a PD. Only use the reserve/tandem variety on a reserve.pull and flare,lisa--What would Scooby Doo?
Opie 0 #8 February 13, 2002 I use them on my canopies and really like them. Just a little less bulk the container and easy to slide the grommlets over if you pull your slider down. You can install them yourself if you follow the directions carefully and keep the lines in order. However I've heard of someone (or read) that did it wrong so if you are unsure get them checked by a rigger when your done. Should only take them 30 seconds to see if you closed them properly assuming your kept the lines in order. I had one of mine get seated off a little (they get egg shaped after a few jumps) so the tab was sticking out to the side instead of neatly within the risor loop. If this happens just have your rigger tack the tab to the risor to hold it where you want it.OpieIf your not on the edge, you can't enjoy the view! BadDog 0 #9 February 13, 2002 I use Slinks on both my mains and my PD and Precision reserves (those were the only two that they were approved for last I heard). I like them better than the Rapidlinks (unless you have to remove and reinstall them a lot, in which case I would stick with the Rapidlinks).CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
lazerq3 0 #10 February 13, 2002 .Quote If this happens just have your rigger tack the tab to the risor to hold it where you want it.Good Idea. I nerver thought of that. I usaully just tuck them back into place if they've come out a little when I'm stowing the risers away in the conatiner. I guess if you plan on keeping the canopy a while it wouldnt hurt. But then could putting a tc on the riserscause any weakness iin the materail or cause a weak spot . Theres a let of tension on that piont of the risers isnt there!!jason
