riggerrob 643 #1 February 12, 2002 How many other riggers use temporary loops when packing Pop-Top reserves?Let's face it, steel T-bodkins are not Cypres compatible and I can not count high enough to remember all the tools recommended by the Racer factory, so I developed my own tools. As far as I know, the only other riggers using temporary loops are John Davies and Harry the German.By temporary loops, I mean a 2 - 8 inch loop of Cypres cord tied to a lump of scrap iron. John Davies uses wooden toggles, while I use steel rings cut off old risers. We insert the temp loops at the start of the pack job, so that the lump rests where the ripcord pins will end up. We pack the rig 3/4 like a Vector, then use the temp loop to pull the closing loop all the way through the container, lock the closing loop with ripcord pins, sign, seal and deliver.Harry from Germany gave me the original concept during the 1995 PIA symposium. Since then I have added adjustable temporary loops, sewn on pull-up cords and tied my two temp loops together, to simplify tool control.Comments? billvon 3,110 #2 February 12, 2002 I use a temp loop made of Cypress cord tied to a T-handle to pack Reflexes. It's recommended in the manual, so I never thought of it as particularly tricky.-bill von
tlshealy 0 #3 February 13, 2002 Rob,I use the steel botkins to help close all the flaps and let it sit a while so the air all seeps out of the bag,(tight Sucker) but when I feed the steel botkins through I push the soft botkins through with them after I've put them through the cutters. Basically just like the instructions for the racer show. 2 pull up cords, 2 steel botkins, 2 soft botkins,2 temp pins, 1 racer equals, a pain in the ass. I may try your way next time. But I do like the way the steel botkins line up the flap grommets.ThanksTad
