Northern Lite container

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a Northern lite container. It was made in 1993. It's in great shape but I'm not familar with the release system. It looks like 2 hinged aluminum blocks. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this rig?
Thanks!

You have a Chrysalis (spelling?) release system on your Northern Lite.
The Chrysalis release system was invented in the Pacific North Wet about 20 years ago. It is a decent system that works - like a 3-ring - on a series of small levers. It has the advantage of solid metal to metal contact, so theoretically should last longer than a 3-ring system. They were only ever built by one guy, so quality control was tight.
The Chrysalis had the disadvantage of being one of the dozen different systems that competed with 3-rings. The 3-ring eventually dominated the market because it has such huge margins for error.
On the positive side, I have never heard of anyone having a problem with a Chrysalis.
Maintenance is the same as a 3-ring: open them once a month, exercise the webbing, clean any grime off the cables and put them back together.
If you want, I will search my files for assembly instructions.
When you decide to convert your Northern Lite to 3-rings, it is a fairly simple process that can be done by any Master Rigger.
