Martini 0 #1 January 10, 2002 I understand that PD reserves are rated for only 25 repacks. That's about 8 years, less if you jump 'em. If true this means they cost about $110 per year to own. (kinda like a Cypres) It would also mean that a PD reserve made in 1995 is just about worthless except as a funky main. Aside from being arguably the "best" reserve around, why would you want one? PhreeZone 20 #2 January 10, 2002 They are not junk at 25 repacks, you just have to send them back to the factory for a wear inspection. If the factory determines that everything is cool they will send it back and you are good to go for another 25 repacks. The main things that I've heard PD is looking for is durability of the fabic through time and storage. Inspection of all the seams and updates can also be done at this time to make sure the canopy is good for a long time. I've heard of PD reserves that have 35-40 repacks and a quite a few deployments on them still in service after the factory inspected it. (Silly CReW dogs always needing their reserves PD canopys have a place to mark on the placard everytime it is packed or deployed so there should be an accurate method of determining the jumps/pack jobs unlike some other reserves out there. It the riggers responcibility to mark the canopy and if they don't then they are not following PD's directions.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
Aviatrr 0 #3 January 10, 2002 As Phreezone said, after 25 repacks they have to be sent back to PD for inspection......but don't worry about that part.. I know one person that has a 6 year old PD reserve with 15 rides and about 30 repacks.....and it's still in great condition.. Actually, I had one of the most recent rides on that reserve, and it opened, flew, and landed great..Mike
freeflir29 0 #4 January 10, 2002 I just bought a 95 PD 176R a couple months ago. The inspection is just PD's way of making sure it's products are performing well. If you don't pack your own reserve this should give you some piece of mind that PD is looking out for their customers and products. Wear over time is one of the best ways to spot likely improvement opportunities in your design."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
alan 1 #5 January 10, 2002 I apologize for just going from memory on this one, but I _believe_ the placard on a PD reserve reads something to the effect of "25 jumps" or "40 repacks" before needing to be sent in for inspection. That is a long cry from "rated for only 25 repacks". I have found that if you have any question about a PD product and contact them, you will get a prompt, thorough, accurate, and polite reply.........from John LeBlanc as often as not.alan
