Canuck 0 #1 January 7, 2002 Anybody out there who has sent in their Crossfire for modification and gotten it back yet? Mine has been gone for over two months now. Granted, I do live on the North side of the border, but it seems to be taking a really long time!Anyway, what I'm really interested in are any observations in difference of flight performance. Anybody noticed different glide, faster/slower turns, harder/softer openings, better/worse flare, etc? Please post. Mine didn't actually require trim mods, it's just in to be re-lined with Vectran, so hopefully it will come back flying the same. Now, I don't mean to be snotty, but unless you actually fly a Crossfire, I'm not that interested in what you have to say. I had my fill of heresay and rumours, and slams from other manufacturers a few months back....Any insight appreciated. Thanks.Canuck
weid14 0 #2 January 7, 2002 I noticed mine was a little more "lively" during opening. the front riser pressure definately higher, I actaully got mine done before the mass hysteria. so it took like a week. openings were the same (time wise), flare remained the same, as did the other parameters you refered to. I jumped mine in ALL kinds of conditions, and it was/is rock solid (I'm playing with a velocity right now though, so I haven't jumped it since Nov). skycat 0 #3 January 8, 2002 According to Icarus they were out of vectran line for the longest time, my lines were finally ready last week, after having been bugging them since Oct about getting my new lineset. One of the guys at my DZ that had the mod done said that the front riser pressure increased so much that now he can't pull them down at all, and the flare completely sucks, other people have jumped his canopy and said the same thing. Another girl said that hers now flies like a dog, neither of them are very happy with the mod. Unfortunately, I won't be able to jump my canopy with the mod since my new canopy is to arive in the next day or so.
prost 0 #4 January 8, 2002 I got my canopy back after over 6 weeks. Since then I have only put one jump on it due to moving on to an FX. I have three mains and only two rigs. The one jump I put on it, I noticed the riser pressure was higher but everything else tended to be good. Opening was normal, and the flare was great. I have been recalled to the Marine Corps so I am a little slowed down on jumping, but check back with me as I will be jumping it more.William
rmsmith 1 #5 January 9, 2002 I talked with Lea at Icarus today, 2002-jan-08, and she said they were averaging about six weeks turn-around time to re-line a Crossfire. The cost is $268.00 for a fresh line set.The revised line trim is supposed to move the "center-of-lift" forward, which will increase the front riser pressure and aid in canopy inflation at the expense of some glide.I'm in snow country, so I won't be able to jump mine until the middle of March.-- RMS

When they start playing with trim angle to try to fix the problem . . . it sure didn't work when they tried it on the Nova.-bill von
flyhi 24 #7 January 9, 2002 QuoteThe cost is $268.00 for a fresh line set.I thought Icarus recalled Crossfires. Are you saying they are requiring people to pay to have a manufacturing/production error fixed? In The Big Book of Things Which Aren't Right that has to be in Chapter One. Is it hot in here, or am I crazy? - Charles Mansonflyhi
prost 0 #8 January 9, 2002 No..they will change the trim for free....also if you have spectra they will change the spectra out to Vectran for free. If you want a new line set, they will charge you for that You might want to talk to them though. I got a deal on my reline since they had to retrim it anyway.William
freeflycracker 0 #9 January 14, 2002 Ive only put about 10 jumps on my 1.55 loaded 129 since the mod was done. I loved the canopy before and never had ANY problems with it .It seems to be a bit more ground hungry now. The openings tend to be a bit more squirrely. I dont really notice much difference in the turns. Flare seems to be the same. The front riser pressure is dramatically increased. Too much. I wonder if Icarus will give me a 30 day money back gaurantee since the mod. Considering its now a completely different canopy than I bought!!
skycat 0 #10 January 14, 2002 Well I didn't jump my old crossfire 116 after the mod since my new crossfire 104 was done before my new lineset was ready (I had spectra lines). But the new one flies pretty much the same as the old one, only big difference was the flare was so deep that my arms were almost all the way down before it started to plane out. Had another jumper jump it, and he said the factory mark had already taken into consideration front riser turns, and since I have short arms and don't use front risers yet, we took an inch or so off and she flared like a banshee. He said though that the front riser presure was a little higher, but not much, but we both agreed that the openings were squirly, and much harder than the old one. (He had jumped my old one when the service bullitin came out to see if anything was wrong with it). Basically I like my new one, but would love to have my super soft openings back.Kelli
