rendezvous 0 #1 January 3, 2002 How does a Dytter work in free fall. Does it detect fall rate or does it only go by altitude. Is there a mechanism of switching of the beeps when you are under the canopy.
freeflir29 0 #2 January 3, 2002 As far as I know they all sense barometric pressure. They take a base line on the ground and then measure the change as they fall. They of course also sense the rate of change or fall rate...They shouldn't go off under canopy because you are under the minimum fall rate and it turns off the beeps automatically. The alerts are 4500 and 3000 - I've noticed them on hop-n-pops from altitude. The first time it was a little strange, now it's just normal.-JimHelp with cancer research here. freeflir29 0 #4 January 3, 2002 "the first two alerts on my Pro Track go off under canopy all the time"Interesting....I have a Time Out and it shuts off after I open. I sometimes hear my 2500 if I'm still snivelling by then. I have yet to hear the 1500....Thank God...."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
Kris 0 #5 January 4, 2002 I have triggered the "dirt-alert" (third warning) on my Pro-Track during a very aggressive spiral on my Stiletto. I wasn't expecting it and it startled the hell out of me. I have also heard it during a couple of really long snivels. I have mine set for 1600'.Kris
skymedic 0 #6 January 4, 2002 I have done the same on my "new style" time out....marcI have no fear of falling but I hate hitting the ground -The Badlees

The first time it was a little strange, now it's just normal. I have had the first warning on my Pro-Track go off(as it is supposed to) while under canopy.. From what I understand, it's supposed to do that in case it is not correctly sensing your fall rate it will at least give you one warning - the highest you have set.. I've used it to set breakoff altitude on CRW jumps..Mike
Iflyme 0 #9 January 4, 2002 Quote I have yet to hear the 1500My last beeps go off at 2500... think I'm gonna set it to 2000, though. What's everybody else got their's set at?
PhreeZone 20 #10 January 4, 2002 1500.... only heard it 3 times so far. Once in Spirals, and the other 2 times it was just as i was reaching up to stow the slider after a long snivel.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
Kris 0 #11 January 4, 2002 I have mine set at 1600 because if I find myself working a problem too long then it is my reminder to forget it and get rid of it. If it went off any higher I would probably miss it during the snivel of my canopy and have no backup reminder if the absolute worst (loss of altitude awareness) should ever happen while I am working on a mal. weid14 0 #12 January 4, 2002 I set my protrack off once setting up for a landing (snap front riser), it'll make you definately wonder what happened
gus 1 #13 January 4, 2002 The ProTrack, and I assume the Dytter, takes a pressure reading every quarter of a second. From the reading and its reading on the ground it can work out your altitude. From the change in pressure readings over each quarter of a second it can calculate your freefall speed.I think!Gus
rendezvous 0 #14 January 4, 2002 Does it go off automatically or do you have to amnually do it or is there a setting to choose between the two.
