pilotdave 0 #1 December 21, 2001 I got tired of jumping with a protec and "kroops for the blind" as I've heard them called, so I decided to get myself a Z1 (after trying one on with my glasses). I finally got it today, so I havent jumped it yet. I havent quite figured out the graceful way of putting it on yet, but I did make a pleasent discovery which surprised me. I can put it on and take it off without removing my glasses. I assumed I'd have to take them off and I really didnt like the idea of having to do that at 14,000 feet with an open door. Once I get it on, it feels comfortable and secure. I am still a little worried about my glasses fogging up in there. It seems like if I wear it kind of low so my nose isnt covered, it'll be fine. I am a little dissapointed though with the workmanship. It has a lot more flaws than I expected. Nothing major that would get me to send it back, but its definitely not perfect. The paint job has a lot of flaws... bubbles, orange peel, and areas that don't quite shine right and wont wipe off like fingerprints. Also, the Z1 sticker right on the front has a bubble in it. There is some velcro glued inside to hold the liner on. It sticks up too far on the side of the chin, so a bit of the glue covered backing is exposed. More of the velco seems to be a little out of place around the mouth which is visible through the opening, along with a long thread sticking out. Oh well, Maybe the blemishes will take away from my pink rig. Davidhttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
Brokeneagle 0 #2 December 21, 2001 I've not had a problem yet with my glasses fogging up in my Z1, but I haven't had a chance to jump it in any really cold weather yet- warm weather's fine. Did you contact the company, and what was their response? I've heard they can be hard to reach with less than desired results. Brokeneagle. I'm really very gentle, no matter what my kung-fu teacher says...
mountainman 0 #3 December 21, 2001 From all the times I've seen people put them on, there is no "graceful" way to do it. They just lay it on their head and PULLLLLLL!!-------------JumpinDuo.com...news, guestbook, and links.
TheMarshMan1 0 #4 December 24, 2001 Sure there is. Once you get used to it, its simple. At least, I've never had any problems. With the visor open, hold the front of the helmet with your left hand and your thumb on the inside, and put the helmet almost on the back of your head first, then just pull down with your left hand. This probably makes no sense to you, but its the way I do it, and I've never had any problems. Oh, and as soon as I got mine I did a little modification- removed all the stock velcro (which was sticking out around the jaw area, like you said) and put all new in. As for jumping with glasses- must be mine is a little small, my glasses dont fit under it. Overall, I absolutely love the helmet, despite the few minor things...-Marshall
pilotdave 0 #5 December 25, 2001 Hmm... seems to get stuck on my nose/chin when i try it back side first. The only way it seems to go on is if I get my chin in first and slide the rest over my head. I dunno, I'll figure out the best way with a little more experience I'm sure.Davidhttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
mnischalke 0 #6 December 25, 2001 Unfeathered is the importer of the Z1 and T2, who jumps at Skydive Orange, owns Unfeathered. She just sold me one two weeks ago and I love it. Made skydiving in the cold wayyyy more enjoyable. She showed me how to put it on correctly. You want to put one thumb under the fabric collar in the front and the thumb under the collar in the back. Spread the collar from front to back and slide straight down over the head. I usually have to pause halfway to straighten my ears cause they have folded over.It works for me. Oh yeah, once you set the tension on the collar chord, leave it alone. It's not meant to be loosened and tightened on each donning.Peace, mikefly nylon
MiataDRM 0 #7 January 1, 2002 You know what's pathetic? I jump @ Orange and I never realized that T2 (pronounced T-squared) was "Unfeathered!" WOW...I'm slow.I bought a used Z-1 last summer & I love it. It's the older one w/ the metal studs instead of the plastic. I jumped at Orange on Sunday...it definately makes the cold more bearable. However, it fogged up on me for the 1st time! I was able to open the visor the first jump. The 2nd jump my fingers couldn't feel the little button & I practically landed blind! Well, I was able to see from a inch clearing at the top of the visor!!!!!! Enjoy your helmet. Get out & JUMP! **I'm a Pschydiver!Majdi
