omega or tri

Recommended Posts

if you are looking to buy your first canopy, buy the TRIATHLON, it's 7 cells, less pack volume, and very forgiving, very very forgiving! look around on the dropzon.com site at used gear, and check them out. TRIATHLON provides the softest, on heading opening of any canopy i've flown. later, i will downsize, and go to a 9 cell, but for now the TRIATHLON is just fine!

I didn't like the Omega because the toggle pressure seemed really high to me - I did two jumps on one and my arms were toasted afterward. But rumor has it that Icarus is redesigning the Omega to help improve that problem; might be worth waiting for.
Precision now offers a seven cell zp as part of their Ground Zero project; might also be worth checking out especially with the deal they have going right now.
Personally my favorite 7 cell is the Spectre but I know a lot of people who love their Tri's and I recommend them too. Best way to decide which is right for you? Jump them all. :)pull and flare,

All the newer seven cells are about the same except for the diablo (most severly tapered in the rear edge). they all open good, tri is easiest to pack, and they all fly about the same (people that say they land bad, can't land 7 cells, people that love their particular 7 cell know how to land them)
(I don't care what anyone says, the difference between a spectre and omega, and a tri is pretty much like two of the same cars next to each other, but one has different headlights and a non functional spoiler :D)
If I were buying a seven cell, personally would buy a triathlon as they are the least expensive ( maybe a used spectre). As a plus you can get Crew lines on it (just in case you decide to try :)good luck

I haven't flown an Omega, but I have flown a Safire (another Icarus product, similar to an Omega in that it's lightly eliptical, but a nine cell design vice a seven cell one), the Spectre, and the Sabre, and the Triathlon. After flying all of them, for my initial canopy, I bought the Triathlon. Very forgiving, opens well (as long as you do a half decent pack job), and rock solid in all phases of flight, even in turbulence. No, it won't win you any swooping contests, but it lands just fine and can be fairly accurate - that is, you can sink it in if you need to. I put about 300 jumps on my Tri before upgrading to a Stiletto, but still hang onto the Tri for demos and such. It's such a great canopy, I can't seem to let go of it.

When my fiance' was looking at rigs earlier this year, she bought the Triathlon over the Omega. The Tri had a much better flare, and coming off student status safe landings were important. I did't jump the Omega, but have about 20 on her Tri. It's a good product. I personally would buy a Diablo over
both of the others. The Diablo is a real performer and well worth taking the time to demo. REMEMBER: try before you buy!
