Buying my first rig

Hey y'all, I'm wondering about buying gear here. I just confirmed my picking up a Sabre with a PD reserve, and now I'm looking at a container and a Cypress. Earlier today I was in contact with Ralph at Western Parachute Sales, and I hear he has some really good deals. I'm wondering if anybody here has dealt with him before, and is his gear usually so cheap for a particular reason. If anybody can give me any info on his operation I'd really appreciate it.

One of the girls at my DZ bought gear from him, and said his services was great. The only thing was instead of the lable on the side saying Saber (or whatever the canopy type was) it said Call Ralph with his phone number.

I know that on all most all the canopies he sells, they have his logo some where. Either Silkscreend to the bottom, or the lables on the end removed and replaced with his logo and phone number. Good prices and quality merchandice fro mall I've heard, if you don't mind doing free advertising for him.....

Thanks guys, I don't mind advertising for somebody who sells good gear for cheap, as long as it is good gear.

I'd be pretty upset if my brand new $1000+ canopy had been removed from the bag and had sewing done on it by non-factory sewers who may or may not be riggers without my knowledge or permission, which is what would have to happen to have the factory label removed and a different label put on a canopy. But that's just me.

I agree with Lisa on that one. It mat be nice to get the good price, but make sure the quality of the product hasn't been altered.

I could agree with you or Lisa any more.... If someone is altering the side panels, then whats to stop them from amking no factory mods to something like the Main Lift webs on a rig to put their logo there too? Also every hole you put in a canopy adds one more stree/tear point.... how many holes are needed to sew a Side label on?

since ya said your not buying a main just a container and cypress i say go for it. I bought my container and cypress from Ralph and got a great deal. Very easy to deal with and I got exactly what I wanted.

check out the classifieds in this forum on dropzone.com, good prices, and i bet no sewed on advertising that isn't original. i'm with lisa and the gang on the "after market" sewing, not good, not good at all, just my opinion.
