Jessica 0 #1 November 29, 2001 I know it's the xmas season and I should be buying stuff for others, not myself, but I just REALLY want to buy myself a big fat skydiving present! I haven't in so long!So...should I get...A dytter? (I don't have an audible yet & I really want one)A new helmet? (I have an pro-tec that's ok but looks uncool...)A weight vest? (I really need one.)Prescription goggles? (I could use these, too.) Alex wants to see you bleed.
weid14 0 #2 November 29, 2001 if you get weights, dont' get a vest, get a belt.... Shannonpiltcher.com and leadbelly are both really good (Shannon's is a bit better design).

indyz 1 #4 November 29, 2001 I just got a set of G107 prescription goggles from SportRX yesterday. They look pretty cool, and I can see just as well with them as I can with my glasses. They distort a little bit around the edge, but so does any curved lense, prescription or not. It haven't jumped them yet, but they feel more secure than my Kroops, and definately have a better seal.--Brian
ooohhhno 0 #5 November 29, 2001 Dytter! Just got one......nothing like that thing screaming in your ear going through your settings! First time is kinda a rush! Enough to make you jump out of your jumpsuit!Stan :-)
jumpervali 2 #6 November 29, 2001 Some ladies need to wear a vest that has the pockets available above the belly. They look like front pockets on a "T" shirt. The reason for this is their center of gravity is lower than a mans. They tend to fly chest high due to their mass being more in their hips than their chest like a mans. If you think you need weights, Are you wearing a tight, slick jumpsuit first? I'd try that first if your not. Choices, choices, choices.jumpervali
PhreeZone 20 #7 November 29, 2001 Jessica, do what any good skydiver would do.... buy them ALL and hide the VISA bill when it comes!Plues of each....Dytter - Helps keep you altitude awareHelmet - improves your fashion sense at the DZWeight vest - helps keep you in the formation and on the RW side of the gameGoggles - Has a good chance of letting you see the ground so you can flare at the right height. You might be able to make 2 standup landings in a row with this item.****My Choice****Freefly suit - Lets you kick back and explore whole new worlds of freefall. Also needed with this option is a Microrig holding your favorite sub-100 foot FX,VX,Cobalt or Velocity, a Camera helment with a Side-mount camera, and sandles to jump in, Protrack is optional with this setup I'm not sure what to put here right now..... gman 0 #8 November 29, 2001 I've tried both weight vests and belts, and after a full day of jumping, the belt does not fatigue me as much as the vest. I wear 10 lbs of lead and maybe that has something to do with the comfort factor. Borrow a belt and see if it makes any difference for you.-G.L.-
tigra 0 #9 November 29, 2001 Zute Sute makes a nice weight vest for ladies. You can have it made custom, with or without some lead built in.
Jessica 0 #10 November 29, 2001 QuoteIf you think you need weights, Are you wearing a tight, slick jumpsuit first?Yep.I'm really interested in this "weight belt" thing -- I'd never considered getting one, but gosh it looks a lot more comfortable. But then, wouldn't it not only NOT help my crappy chest-high arch, but also potentially make it worse? Alex wants to see you bleed.
weid14 0 #11 November 29, 2001 well, guess what -- a chest high arch isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially for flying in the mantis position, a weight belt lets you actually wear less weight, and does put it at your CG (well close enough anyway). With a vest you put weight out further (put one point on a piece of paper, draw circles of varying diameter, physics dictates that, weight further from the middle will have more momentum) and it takes more effort (input) to stop any move (stopping just as important as starting and an often over looked skill). give one a try, I think you'll like it. my terammate went down 6 pounds going to a belt vs a vest. weid14 0 #12 November 29, 2001 a woman's center of gravity is typically an inch lower than a man's, not that much of a difference in this situation.
Tee 0 #13 November 30, 2001 Hi Jessica. Just my 2 cents. Tee
weid14 0 #14 November 30, 2001 ummmm, a man's center of gravity is not at his shoulder.... in fact it is about an inch directly behind the belly button. a womans is 1 - 1.5 inches lower than that, that's it.
