Geoff 0 #1 November 28, 2001 Not sure if this is really for 'gear and rigging' forum - it's more about the commercial structure of the skydiving industry, but here goes.....Why is the Cobalt not available form the 'big' dealers.... Square 1, Para-gear, etc.... ? They seem to stock all the other brands.and a side question- does anybody know roughly how many Cobalts have been sold? - just trying to compare with the roughly 1000 Crossfires.Just curiousThanksGeoff
PhreeZone 20 #2 November 28, 2001 I'm just guessing here, but Atair USA is only a little over a year old or so, while the ???parent company/partner??? is over 20 from everything I've read. I asked Square1 about carrying Cobalts and they said they were looking at applying for a dealership, but was waiting to see if it would be worth thier while to sell them. If the are only going to sell 3 or 4 a year then I can see why they would'nt want to have to fill all the paperwork and jump through hoops to sell stuff.Square1 does'nt sell all the canopies currently being made either. I can't seem to find any Flight Concepts canopies for sale on thier site, but I know the company is still in business because my DZ got 6 new Sharpchuters this spring for students.By the same token Big Air Sportz has very popular canopies, but neither Square1 or Paragear has them for sale. Brian sells direct. Granted if you refer him a sale he'll credit you $100 towards the purchase of a new canopy. In addition to just Cobalts look at Spaces' and Alpha's they are the same exact planform. I remember Dan saying they were up to like 3000 canopys sold so far.... Write him directly, his user name is CobaltDanI'm not sure what to put here right now.....
