RemiAndKaren 0 #2 November 25, 2001 Closing loop: change it when its starts to frayHandles: good idea to do this at the start of the day or weekend: peel off from velcro to make sure the velcro hasnt "set" and is too dificult to peel if needed.Clean the cutaway cables and undo the 3 rings to flex the risers regularly (every couple of months or at least every reserve pack)any other tips?RemiMuff
riggerrob 643 #3 November 25, 2001 Keep a spare main closing loop and rubber bands handy.Spray it with Scotch guard before its first jump.Minimize exposure to direct sunlight.Lay it on a packing mat when packing.Pack on clean carpet.Transport it to the DZ in a gear bag. Hint, any old suitcase or backpack will do as long as it keeps your rig clean and dry.Speaking of clean and dry, store your rig in a cool, dry, dark closet. R00tj00se 0 #5 November 26, 2001 (i) Pack in the shade...(ii) Shout at animals and children who come into packing tent to chase them off. Animals and small children can half the life of your canopy.
jumpervali 2 #6 November 26, 2001 Try to limit the amount of direct UV to the canopy and your rig. Sun light not only fades colors but it breaks down the poly chains that are in the synthetic fibers. Every time you find you've laid your canopy in the sun. Put a dollar in a piggy bank! Your container will fade too try to do your dirt dives in the shade. Stand in the shade of the wing if your waiting on the load to fill. Little habits you make yourself build now will have a long term payoff! Keep your gear like new ALWAYS. The "well I'll get to it later" is how new rigs look old quick. Even 3 years from now if you do this it will look new. Never forget how much you paid for it and treat it with respect, it does save your life. If you ever suspect a piece that has wear, FIX it then! I have a 13 year old Vector that looks as good as the day it was made, and 6 other rigs that are in perfect shape. My instructors and up jumper friends gave me hell early in my training and it stuck. Now I'm reaping the rewards of having some of the nicest equipment at our DZ. Ps. DON'T DRAG YOUR RIG WHEN PACKING!jumpervali
lazerq3 0 #7 November 26, 2001 One thing I do that I've mentioned before is to buy a little medium brisel brush and brush it off after the days jumping. I do it all the time and it still looks like new every time I pull her out. A clean rig is a happy rig. jason
