Jabeln79 0 #1 November 18, 2001 I just bougth my first skydiving rig A vector 3 w/ a Triathalon 190. My problem is everyone at the DZ told me different ways to pack it.. Ive only flatpacked before this weekend and thoughtit was very easy and quick to do. Now some people tell me you have to pro pack a triathalon.. is this true.. or can you flat pack a 7 cell Triathalon w/o packing tabs.. Just wandering what you all think because Pro packing confuses the hell out of me especially since 3 different people showed my 3 different ways to propack on my first day learning how.. thanks joe
Jimbo 0 #2 November 18, 2001 There's no reason you can't flat pack a Triathalon. There's no reason you can't Pro pack a Triathalon and there's no reason you can' Psycho pack a Triathalon.Pack it however you want. Figure out what's easiest and gives you consistantly good openings and stick with that.-Jim
PhreeZone 20 #3 November 18, 2001 Do a search of this fourm and you'll find lots on packing a Tri. I know the question has came up at least once , or twice or 50 times........A rainy day at the DZ is better then a Sunny day at work
cloud9 0 #4 November 19, 2001 Also check the Aerodyne Research site. they have a packing manual you can download, they also carry a packing tape you can purchase.I pro packed my 175 just like they say and had great openings. One of the guys I jump with flat packs his 160 and has great opeings also.
rhino 0 #5 November 19, 2001 I owned a Triathlon. You can pack it any way you want. It doesn't make a difference. Just keep the lines centered..Pro, Flat, Psycho, no matter...Blue Skies and Smooth Rides!!
FallingMarc 0 #6 November 19, 2001 As far as I can tell you can pretty much pack anything however you want, you just eventually find a way that works for you every time and get into a groove. Like you said, there's a thousand different ways to get the canopy in the bag... but like I told you on saturday, I've flat packed my Triathlon with no trouble. I pro pack it now because that's the way Aerodyne says to, and it looks cooler. But I've put about 35 jumps on mine and just in the past couple of weeks finally found a way that I can pack it every time and have it open consistently in a way that I like. It just takes some practice. I had to jump my pro pack 5 or 6 times before I really trusted it too....Marc
tlshealy 0 #7 November 19, 2001 I've only got about 30 jumps on a 160 tri, but the best way I've found to pack it, is the way they show on the Aerodyne Research site, but I roll the nose tight and roll the tail enough to tighten the bundle. It sniveles a little then opens smoothly, before I started rolling the nose it would open quick one time then slow the next. But canopies and people are different, try different methods and see what works best for you.Blue Skies
Donna 0 #8 November 20, 2001 I have a Triathlon 190 and I propack it according to Aerodyne's video. I'm the one that asked about packing them on another thread back in August because my husband had gotten slammed on his twice. He had been using the small rubber bands and not doubling them. Since then we both use small bands on the first 3 stows and then the larger ones on the rest (that are thinner because of no cascades) and double them and it seems to be working great. He hasn't been slammed since and mine has always opened nice. I roll the nose about 3x on each side, he rolls his about 4 or 5. I found mine sniveled a bit too much when I did that..... as it is I still get about 700 ft. snivels. He rolls his tail quite a bit. I just give it about 4 rolls. I was doing it tighter for a while and started getting off-heading openings. I went back to how I had been doing it and it stopped doing that. I have the video if you'd like to borrow it. I'll gladly mail it to you as long as you eventually send it back. Send me an e-mail with your address at skydivers@net1plus.com if you want me to send it. Good luck! I think you'll love your Triathlon. My husband and I both love ours. Oh... also I know an old timer that has a Triathlon and has been flatpacking it for years and is very happy with it.Skies,D
Kirils 1 #9 November 20, 2001 I've Psycho-packed my girlfriends Triathlon and the openings were TOO slow (1200'). Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
