Pro Track setting...

Recommended Posts

I use TAS (true air speed) as it gives you your true speed through the air, whereas SAS (skydivers air speed) adjusts your speed reading to adjust for the thinner air / less drag at higher atitudes. The speed readings are relative to 4000 feet (average break off) at 7.08 degrees. SAS allows for accurate comparison of fall rates, but if you're going for speed use TAS. I think L&B say that a person in a fixed position falls at 62m/s at 10000', but only 50m/s at 3000'. SAS compensates for this.
It's all in the back of manual (if you've lost it you can get it off the net).

I was just wondering what to set it at so I can compare with other jumpers

I'm not convinced that the speed readings are accurate enough to compare with other jumpers at all on TAS or SAS if you have the thing mounted on your helmet. The burble just changes the pressure too much. For speed skydiving competitions, they use 2 pro-tracks mounted one on each side of the harness on the lateral webbing (I think that's the right term), and then they average the readings from the 2 units.

Most people, in my experience, use SAS.. As geoff stated, while the Pro-Track is in your helmet the airflow is disturbed, so it doesn't give 100% accurate information.. The altitude warnings go off within 100ft, but the speeds can be fairly far off..
