Welcome to The Price Is Right

Recommended Posts

Ok everyone, let's see what you think the value of this rig is. It is a rig that a friend of mine bought (from a rigger no less) under the pretext that it was newer and better than it really is. I am curious as to how badly he was had.
So here it is:
Vector 1 (Wonderhog) V4 DOM 1989
Raider 220 main DOM 1991
Glidepath Firelite 174sqft reserve DOM 1991
Cypres Expert 1 pin DOM 1994
Collapsible pilot chute BOC
Supposed, the reserve has never been ridden, and the cypres never fired, and the rig has 350 jumps on it. But all of that could be suspect based on what he was led to believe he was getting. Lines are CRW and look close to new.
No RSL in the rig, also.
Well, the post is open, what do you think would be a fair/good price for this rig. If you want to explain your figure that is fine too. Let me know, the more opinions the better.

I'm saying $1000-1500 would be all I'd offer. Probally lots closer to the $1000 range if its the ugly colors that were popular back then......
Vector- $100-250 depending on condition
Raider - $300-400
Firelite - $300-400
CYPRES- $200-300 depends on the 8 year check status and battery
Total: around $1000
I hate to see anyone buy F-111 canopys if they have any intentions of sticking in the sport.... I hope your friend did'nt get screwed to bad....

Assuming everything is in excellent condition, $1600 max -
12 year old container, 350 jumps - $100-250
10 year old all F111 main, 350 jumps - $200-350
10 year old reserve, no jumps - $400-500
7 year old Cypres - $400-500
Since most people want a freefly safe container, 12 year old containers aren't worth much. Since most people want a zp main, all F111 mains aren't worth much. Since most people load their reserves at over 1.0, older reserves aren't worth much.
That's a perfectly jumpable rig (assuming a rigger has checked it out), although I wouldn't recommend freeflying with it. Would be a good starter for someone up to around 180 lbs.exit weight (limited by the reserve max. suspended weight).

Jessica,
IMO F-111 are just fine if your purpose for having a canopy is to get you down under a nice, safe predictibe canopy. They are lots easier to pack then most ZP's too. It when people start taking an F-111 canopy outside its design envelope is where the problems acccur. Exampe... using it as a surfing canopy or over loading it. F111 just can't handle over loading it like a ZP can. The lower price on an F111 is great if you can't afford a ZP rght away or are just looking for a canopy to save you rental costs while you decide on a ZP canopy. Learning to pack with f111 is lots easier then learning on ZP. Downsides to F111, short lifespan, they are pretty much a 700 jump and throw away canopy. You can milk more life out of them that that sometimes, but that seems to be average. Another downside, but should never really factor in to the purchase of a canopy, low resale value.

Just cuz F111 mains aren't worth much doesn't mean they aren't perfectly good canopies... I liked my F111 mains too. They're easy - easy to pack, easy to fly and easy to land. A perfect starter canopy because they are much more tolerant of pilot error than a zp canopy is.
But it's kinda like sex (strange how so many things are kinda like sex)... once you've had your zp cherry popped it's real hard to go back to F111... zp is more fun to fly, and we're all in this to suck as much fun out of a $20 bill as we possibly can, right? ;)
