larry 0 #1 November 12, 2001 Just got my first container a few months ago (javelin). It is in good shape as far as being safe and undamaged, but it has a pretty nasty grass stain on the main flap right where the color patters are. I want to use some kind of stain remover to get it out but do not want to shorten the material's life or damage it. Any suggestions on what I should use? This is a real newbie question but I honestly don’t know. Also, is it ok to get it wet and scrub it with a stiff brush? I think I saw somebody doing that once at my dz.Thanks for the info!-Larry
RemiAndKaren 0 #2 November 12, 2001 We use Shout wipes (we carry a few in our gearbags)... works really well, even on white! Works best on fresh stains.RemiMuff
alan 1 #3 November 12, 2001 Your container can be washed with a mild detergent at repack time and the grass stains can be scrubbed out. It will cost extra, but it will come back to you looking almost new again. For minor stains, as has already been pointed out, you can dampen and wipe/scrub them out and the sooner, the easier it is. Some dry stains can be brushed out with a stiff, plactic bristle scrub brush.alan
riggerrob 643 #4 November 12, 2001 You can do a little cleaning on closed rigs provided you are careful not to let solvents sink in deep enough to wet the reserve canopy or even more expensive: the Cypres. It is easiest to clean thick flaps like the main pin cover. larry 0 #5 November 13, 2001 Thanks everyone for the advice. Since my gear is in pieces right now, I’m going to scrub the container as suggested, maybe try some Shout on the stain.-Larry
Kirils 1 #6 November 13, 2001 Nylon really is difficult to stain. If the "staining substance is very acidic or alkaline, then you probably have a dye modification. It is possible to re-dye the fabric. (I have re-dyed 4 rigs with great success) Use a wet-vac when you clean the stain. You will be able to soap and rinse completely without the water going deep into the rig. Good Luck!Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
