jfields 0 #1 November 2, 2001 Hi.I was wondering if any of you Pro-Tec jumpers out there use ProTrack audible altimeters. If so, how did you do the mounting and how well can you hear the signals? Carrying this one step further, do any of you download your jumps to the JumpTrack software?I was thinking of picking up a ProTrack and JumpTrack, but wanted to know how well it would work with my current helmet. I'll be getting a full-face eventually, but I'd want to be able to use the ProTrack with either. Thanks for any input you may have!JustinMy Homepage
Spectrejumper 0 #2 November 3, 2001 I've never used my Pro Track with a Pro Tec, but I used to use one with a hockey helmet. That Pro Track is somewhere in the desert of Arizona now. I had it mounted on the outside of the helmet with the clip that comes with the Pro Track, until I got slapped in the head by my risers on opening. I could hear it fine though, so I don't think you'd have any problems using one with a Pro Tec. I would strongly advise against mounting it on the outside of the helmet though. :-)Mike D-23312"It's such a shame to spend your time away like this...existing." OmriMon 0 #3 November 3, 2001 i can't comment about using a pro track with a pro tec but i can comment about a time out with a pro tec.we have the old time outs on all our student helmet, they r mounted on the inside where the place for the ear is, u can still hear it really good and it doesn't make it uncomfortable.plus there is absulutely no way u're gonna lose it on a riser slapFree Skies,Omri A-38593
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 November 4, 2001 I normally jump with a gecko, but due to a dodgy chin strap, I had to use the DZ's pro-tec helmets this weekend. I was really surprised that my Pro-Track fitted perfectly in the ear hole - you don't need to mount it in the holder at all, as it fits straight into the ear hole. The sound transmission is really good as well - I found it better than my gecko !! jfields 0 #5 November 5, 2001 Thanks for the info, everyone!I think I'll order a Pro-Track this month. Sounds like it is worth giving it a shot.JustinMy Homepage
Donna 0 #6 November 5, 2001 I've used my protrack in my protec and didn't have any problems. I would definitely put it on the inside! It easily fits in the ear hole. I did use the mounting clip and threaded it through the slats in the helmet. I did have to turn the volume on high to hear it though. I also later covered the ear holes with tape to block out some noise and that seemed to help me hear it a little better. Good luck!Skies,D
jfields 0 #7 November 5, 2001 Donna,Once you got it in there, how easy was it to take in and out?One reason I'm asking is that I plan to use it with the software to transfer the data to my computer. I figured you would have to remove it from the helmet for the infared ports to see each other.Thanks.JustinMy Homepage
Donna 0 #8 November 5, 2001 Well I did break the mounting clip the first day I used it but that was because I used both black tie strips to attach the clip to the slats in the helmet. Because the slats were slanted the ties didn't stay down flat in the little slots on the clip. (kind of hard to explain if you haven't looked at one up close so you know what I'm talking about). To solve this I ended up only using one tie to secure the clip to the helmet. This made the protrack slide more easily into the clip. Does this make any sense? I have no trouble now reaching in and taking the protrack out or putting it back in the clip now. BTW When I broke the first the clip I e-mailed L&B about purchasing another one and they immediately mailed one out to me free of charge and even threw in some more extra batteries. wildblue 7 #9 November 5, 2001 I've known many people that use a Dytter/Pro Track in a Pro-Tec with no problems (Except for the one guy that forgot to fasten his chin strap)It should come out pretty easy, it just snaps out of the little holder bracket doo-hickey. And yes, you would need to take it out of the helmet. To transfer the data to a PC, you snap it into what just looks like another mounting bracket, but with a wire coming out of it.It's hard to explain... so basically, go for it, you won't be disappointed, and L&B's support is top notch.I ain't happy, I'm feeling gladI got sunshine, in a bag
Kirils 1 #10 November 6, 2001 L&B has changed their plastic mounts to metal now. Drop them a knote and they will send you one.Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
Donna 0 #11 November 6, 2001 QuoteL&B has changed their plastic mounts to metal now.Just recently? Because it was only about a month ago that they sent me one and it was still plastic. Thanks for the heads up. I will write and ask them about it.Skies,D
