FallinWoman 1 #1 October 31, 2001 What caused my cutaway cable housing on my risers to need restitching? Just regular wear and tear? My cutaway? Do you think line twists would cause extra tear?Any thoughts?
freeflir29 0 #2 October 31, 2001 If you look on page 42 of the Nov Parachutist is has an article on the effect of line twists on your cutaway cables. I think it's fair to say that line twists put a lot of wear and strain (especially if you have a spinning mal) on the risers and 3 ring assembly. Merrick 0 #3 October 31, 2001 Hmmm.... Pam's Mirage has shown significant wear in the stitching that holds her cutaway cables under her mudflap. I'd be kind of interested to know what causes this myself. The rig only had about 35 jumps on it when we bought it, and the rig hasn't been in any type of malfunction that I'm aware of. Anybody have any ideas? "Pammi's Hemp/Skydiving Jewelry"

I have seen this on the fabric channel in the risers - but never on the cable housings under the mudflap.....then again, all the rigs I've ever owned have had hard housings.. Have you guys had a rigger check it out?Mike

I had a rigger look at it when I first noticed it & he said it'd be OK, and it hasn't gotten any worse, but in all reality we should probably get it checked out again just to be sure."Pammi's Hemp/Skydiving Jewelry"
Unisyn 0 #6 October 31, 2001 Hi FallinwomanWithout getting a visual on the risers it is difficult to tell. It sounds like the type 3 channel that holds the metal housing onto the risers has threads that are loose. This is usually caused from a hard opening. The Type 3 does not stretch as much as your Type 17 riser. Once the Type 17 stretches to a point it begins to break the threads that attach the Type 3 tape. Repeated jumps without repairing/restitching the type 3 will allow for it to unravel. This phenomenon has occurred for years but with recently developed canopies it is more intermittently. It is an easy repair that any master rigger with a single needle machine can make. Have one of the riggers at Archway look at it and repair it if necessary.Unisyn-Sending my love to my fan club.
FallinWoman 1 #7 November 1, 2001 Hi Bill,The hard opening thing sounds reasonable. I have a Sabre that I am just learning how to pack, so I have certainly had several fast hard openings. Greg stitiched it up in like two seconds, no big deal, I was just curious as to whether this would keep happening. I guess if I learn to pack snivels, I should be fine!!
