ERICCONNELLY 0 #1 October 29, 2001 I have been using Aerodyne research Superbandz® (http://www.aerodyneusa.com/superbandz.html )for my packing stows on my main for about 60 jumps. Last weekend I had a difficult to explain bag lock malfunction. The pilot chute was cocked and fully opened and once the chopped main (and me) were on the ground, we looked it over (the DZO/rigger and I) and could not determine what caused the bag lock. I am not trying to say that I didn’t pack this surprise for myself but there were a couple of questions. These bands are made of stiffer rubber that the “usual” rubber packing stows. While they worked great all summer, this was the first jump I have made where the weather was cold. Does anyone else have any experience using these in the cold? Is it even an issue? JumpHog 0 #2 October 29, 2001 I have been using SuperBandz for the last 600 jumps and have not encountered any problens with them. I'm not sure if temperature would make any difference regarding their elasticity, but I jump in Kansas, where we go from extreme hot to extreme cold during the year, and have had no problems. Was the bag lock simply caused by the rubber bands not letting go of the lines or were there any other factors involved?
ERICCONNELLY 0 #3 October 29, 2001 There didn't appear to be but it's hard to tell. My d-bag was maybe a little tighter than normal when I packed it. When I looked up at the mal it was just a spinning black bag. On the ground it there were no knots in the lines, just twisted up, and the stows came out when pulled. My pilot chute was open enough to pull me vertical so I was just curious.I will probably keep using them but I hate to contribute to my rigger's liquer cabinet too heavily (at least he shares!) BadDog 0 #4 October 30, 2001 I've used Super Bandz without any trouble, but I do know one guy who had a bag lock when he double wrapped the locking stows. I single wrap the locking stows and double wrap the rest of the stows, and I have yet to experience a problem. I jump in central Ohio, where it is always sunny and warm (not).CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog
