johnny1488 1 #1 October 4, 2001 Now that I have somewhat crossed over to the so called "dark side" ---whooooooooo....heeeeeeeeee... I need to get something to slow my ass down in a sit. Does anyone use an alternative to freefly pants that cost over $100 like pants made out of some sort of canvas or something. Im sure Ill have to go for the gusto just like everything else but i figured id check it out anyway. I use a jersey and it seems to grab a decent amout of air. My RW suit is starting to gather dust, uhh ohh.Johnny
freaksister 0 #2 October 4, 2001 I freefly in my Patch Pants...they are about 10 different colors and they are super comfortable. I wear a long sleeved tee shirt tucked in and my tevas. I bought my patch pants brand new from tony suits for $90 but you could probably find some used ones at the dz for cheap. Besides $90 isn't bad.The Freak KittyI lust for the ultimate rush... Zennie 0 #3 October 4, 2001 I use military surplus BDU camo pants. Tough fabric. As baggy as you want 'em. Tie-down ankles.$35. "Wear the grudge like a crown. Desperate to control. Unable to forgive. And we're sinking deeper."
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 October 5, 2001 QuoteTough fabric. As baggy as you want 'em. Tie-down ankles. $35. Man, you are getting RIPPED OFF, that is unless you just MUST have new ones. For those of you that don't have military friends that will GIVE you some, you can still get them used, all day long, at the local surplus store for around $15 bucks. You will be "cool and stylish" so long as you are not jumping at a DZ anywhere near a military base. Smart business on BDU's for skydiving use is to sew down the cargo pockets on the legs. Merrick 0 #5 October 5, 2001 I posted the following on another thread a few weeks ago, I haven't gotten the jumpsuit yet, but with shipping from Australia I should get it some time next week....Quote"Check out these Unisex UFO pants...." Pam & I both got a pair of these, we've only jumped with them a few times but they seem to work excellent, I don't know how well they'll hold up compared to regular FF pants, but they're very sturdy and they have ankle & waist draw-strings. As for an entire freefly suit, you might consider ordering something from someone outside the US. Pam just ordered me a custom freefly suit for my birthday from "Tad's Sportswear" (an Australian based suit manufacturer) for about $150. The Australian dollar is worth about .52 right now, so you can get a $250 - $300 suit brand new for about half the price! Hope this helps! The pants have pockets similar to those on the BDU's, so you might consider sewing them as well. However, we haven't, and have yet to have any problems.Oh yeah, the pants will turn into a sort of backpack thing! freaksister 0 #8 October 5, 2001 Well, I jumped in my UFO pants last time I was at the dz because all my other clothes were locked in the car...(along with my helmet, altimeter, etc.) all I had was my rig...so I borrowed an alti and goggles and hit the sky with my ufos and a baby doll tee and tevas on...its fun to just jump with whatever you're already wearing...sort of a freedom thing! Anyway, I won't wear my UFO pants to freefly very much because they won't stand up to it. Yours are a little different than mine however....its the see through plastic ventilation on the sides that I think will go first...although I don't think the seams and stuff will hold up long either. Several people commented on how cool they were but that they won't last. I told them, well I usually wear my patch pants which are a LOT more sturdy but they're sort of "locked up" right now! heheSisMusic should trigger some kind of response... - The Chemical Brothers
Kirils 1 #9 October 6, 2001 I have a freefly suit with chute assis wings from Tad's Sportswear that lets me sit VERY SLOW. I can fall as slow as the slowest belly flying reptile. cost was about $150.00 US.They are made extremely well..I just ordered a 3rd one from them. Tad's has a web site.Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
Aviatrr 0 #10 October 6, 2001 Quote Smart business on BDU's for skydiving use is to sew down the cargo pockets on the legs. Will they catch air when you fly head down if you don't? That could be helpful in slowing my ass down.. Mike
SkymonkeyONE 4 #11 October 7, 2001 Quoteslow my ass down...well weLL WELL then! In that case, you can take off the tops of the pockets and sew mesh there! Sort of upside-down air brakes.
