Jumperpaula 0 #1 October 2, 2001 The PD Tour is at my DZ this weekend. Im not generally very adventurous when it comes to gear, but what should I try? I have just under 400 jumps, and Im on my second canopy, a Sabre120, loaded about 1.3. Im thinking try a Stilleto. ThanksFly Your Slot !
Zennie 0 #2 October 2, 2001 QuoteIm thinking try a Stilleto. You want to try a Stilletto after what Mikey's gone through? I didn't realize that was this weekend. I'm on the waiting list for a Sabre2 150, but I may give the 150 & 135 a whirl while they're there.I've heard nothing but good things about the new Sabre2's, you may even want to try one of them out as well."Wear the grudge like a crown. Jumperpaula 0 #3 October 2, 2001 I've always heard a spinning Stilleto can get away from you real fast. Mikey's really sounds like a brake came unstowed the way it seemed onheading then went into the spin. Going straight from a square to a full ellipical.. ? Im really wondering about trying an airlock canopy too. The Vengence (I think) is the PD version? Fly Your Slot !
Zennie 0 #4 October 2, 2001 QuoteIm really wondering about trying an airlock canopy too. The Vengence (I think) is the PD version? Ramon has one and likes it a lot. He did a lot of demo-ing before he went with it. I'm sure he'd have some good input for you."Wear the grudge like a crown. Desperate to control. Unable to forgive. And we're sinking deeper." Jumperpaula 0 #5 October 2, 2001 In another thread, Ramon Posted: Quote On whim I got a vengance 135 demo... What a fun overlooked canopy. Granted this canopy wants to dive and is probably better geared for turf surfing as opposed to being an allround canopy.... but it had a lot of flare power. This is a nice canopy. .. the canopy continues to dive a little after recovery (negative recovery arc) This canopy sure flies BIG at the end of the swoop, it has bottom end flare to shut the canopy down with only a few steps taken after a nice little surf.It is ground hungry though ...Openings a brisk, soft and on heading with the occasional dive due to asymetrical end cell closures. Toggle turns are much more brisk than say.. a samurai... almost as snappy as a stilleto. That is what I needed to know. Stilleto it is. Fly Your Slot ! cobaltdan 0 #6 October 2, 2001 i am confident you will find the cobalt to be a superior choice to a stilletto or vengence.please check us out:www.extremefly.comsincerely,danatair
ramon 0 #7 October 2, 2001 I agree a little bit with Dan. The Cobalt is a great canopy and I am totally confident that it is superior to a stilleto and for your purposes it is a much better opening canopy and easier to pack.If you try a vengeance I'll buy you a beer, though ha ha.R
skybytch 273 #8 October 2, 2001 I'd recommend flying the Sabre2 a few times before or after jumping the Stiletto. If you're gonna be plunking down that kinda money on a new canopy, be sure you've checked out all of your options before you buy.Not dissing Stilettos; I just know a lot of very experienced jumpers (including my boss and Perris' DZO) who loved the way they flew but went to something else when they got tired of hunting down their chopped Stiletto's and paying for reserve repacks. In addition, the Stiletto doesn't always open on heading; if you do a lot of big ways you might want to consider something else. And remember that Stiletto's like to land swoop style. If that's not what you're looking for, then the Stiletto isn't the canopy for you.pull and flare,lisa---"I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood..." Jumperpaula 0 #9 October 2, 2001 Quote In addition, the Stiletto doesn't always open on heading; if you do a lot of big ways you might want to consider something else. Thats a good point. And there is a new factor to consider at my DZ, our dropzone is on the Edge of Class B airspace. This means no jumprun over the top of the DZ. Unfortunately, it's not gonna change for awhile, if ever. This weekend, I learned the importance of GLIDE. I need less diving and groundhungry - but alot more glide potential. Looks like Im looking at longer spots now. Ramon: You got your eye on trying anything that PD brings? Fly Your Slot !
Jimbo 0 #10 October 3, 2001 QuoteAnd remember that Stiletto's like to land swoop style. If that's not what you're looking for, then the Stiletto isn't the canopy for you. That isn't to say though that you can't land a Stiletto on a straight in approach. I've seen quote a few landed that way, and often.-Jim
prost 0 #11 October 3, 2001 I don't fly a stiletto any more but I used to. As far as the comment goes about stilettos liking to land swoop style, the stiletto lands great straight in. It will land straight in as good as any canopy put there.
Aviatrr 0 #12 October 3, 2001 Quote Im thinking try a Stilleto. So you like line twists and spinning, eh? I've had a Spinetto spin up a few times, and was able to get out of it and get the canopy flying straight again, but burned a lot of altitude doing it. Only had to chop one.As for your comment on going with the Vengeance....well, that's supposedly a higher performance canopy than the Stiletto. From what I understand, they dive like crazy in risers and have a long recovery arc.Hey, why don't you try a Crossfire? MikeBTW, that Crossfire comment was not serious, in case you didn't realize that... I think the best advice would be to talk to whom ever is there with the canopies. They know there stock better than any of us could. Of course, they will not tell you about Cobalts or other makes of canopies. In terms of what to demo from them, though, they will be extremely helpful and they are knowledgeable.Have fun and be safe!Anne
 ramon 0 #14 October 3, 2001 My first priority will be to try a Velocity if they have a 111, this will be to compare openings with my FX.My second priority would be to jump a Sabre2 (150ish).
