BenW 0 #2 September 28, 2001 Is this a troll??If not, have you done your AFF or static line progression course?I suggest you talk to your instructors who can explain what everything is whilst showing the items in question to you....B.
PhreeZone 20 #3 September 28, 2001 I second Ben's idea about talking to your JM's and instructors about the gear while you are sitting in front of it. Tie the strings to a ruck sack and stuff the shirt into your pocket - get a mate to take you in his microlight to approx 500ft - this is way high and takes ages to the ground - jump into a stable spread position - wait until something beeps in your ear then throw the shirt out the rest will follow........... easy see................. yep you have guessed it I am stuck at work and I am bored sh*tless........... let me outta this hell hole .............. If you are indeed a skydiver, then you absolutely need to know all about every single piece of your gear prior to your next jump. If you do not get satisfaction from your current student training vendor, then you need to move out smartly and find a place that has a decent training ethic. I would be appalled that someone would ask such a vague question on my dropzone. If this was a troll, then I truly do have a trick for you. Could I assume that you've not jumped yet, and that you are looking for information about this adventure? No problem. As for a list of equipment, SkymonkeyOne's right, there is nothing like asking your JM (Jump Master - your instructor) about it, and having him show it to you. If you don't have access to a JM, or to a DZ, try buying the Skydiver's Handbook. There is a section on gear and equipment, and it's a pretty good manual, inasmuch as it gives the basics. Hope this helps-Ciels-Michele"What of the dreams that never die? I first want to say a quick hello to all. I've already done three jumps. Two tandem and one AFF about two and half years ago. I've been wanting to get serious for quite some time now but I've run into a slight prob. I'm 6' 2" and about 280+ lbs. Most of the drop zones I've talked to in the area say they don't dive people over 260. Is there a way I can get licensed being at a heavier weight?
 mountainman 0 #12 October 2, 2001 you may have to try some other DZs. have you considered going somewhere big like Perris or Zhills or Eloy to do it? They may have more "options" for heavier people. You might have to go away for a week or so, but hell, what a way to spend a vacation, eh? And, you would get to jump your ass off! --------------Brandon Wren
 SkymonkeyONE 4 #13 October 2, 2001 QuoteCan I jump if I am a big galoot? You certainly can, but not everywhere. What you should first do is look in the dropzone directory and call around to DZ's in your area. Tell them you seriously want to skydive and ask if they can accomodate you. I know several places that have had students in the 300 pound range. Equipment at one place in particular (Skydive Opelika) for "big" jumpers is surplus Military Freefall MC-4 rigs. These have 375 square foot mains as well as reserves. No big deal, just call around.Chuck
 tinyfunkmaster 0 #14 October 4, 2001 Thanks Skymonkey, Mountainman...
