weid14 0 #1 August 28, 2001 Problem: got my corssfire, loved the openings and bottom end flare - aggressive front riser manuvers started the canopy bucking, however. Had the brake lines lengthened - didn't help. Happened to talk to Tim from Monkey Claw who had the same issue. He said to call Icarus and ask for the "B-line trim mod". Apparently all new crossfires are coming out with this mod. So I called and they hooked me up. Sent the canopy to the service center and they turned it around in a week (total re-line).It has no A/B cascade -- my impressions: openings still nice and soft, although I have noticed a the canopy is more twitchy (twitchier?) now than previous to the mod during the opening sequence. The front riser pressure is more (a lot more) than with the cascades. Landings are even better, seems to have even more flare. No hint of bucking -- solid as a rock in front riser manuvers. had a bunch of no-wind landings and it stopped without having to run anything out (with a couple of pretty nice swoops). FWIW I load my 139 about 1.
Geoff 0 #2 September 6, 2001 A friend of mine sent his new Crossfire back to be re-trimmed after initial stability problems with front risers. The canopy handles fine now, but the lines are still cascaded.I have also heard indirectly (on rec.skydiving) of others having the same problem, and it being solved by a re-trim or re-line.I am in no doubt that at least some Crossfires have left the factory incorrectly trimmed. Whether that's a design flaw or a manufacturing or tolerancing issue I don't know.Until a week or so ago I was about to order a Crossfire. I'm now taking a break to reconsider - NOT because of the accident at the Ranch (which appears to be due to turbulence), but because I've now heard that the trim problem my friend had was not an isolated one.Has anyone else had this problem or know any more facts about it?Incidentally, I'm also considering a Cobalt, but strangely, here in the UK, I can get a Crossfire for less than a Cobalt. Did you know that Dan?ThanksGeoffPS please don't turn this into another thread about the accident at the Ranch!
riggerrob 643 #3 September 6, 2001 Yesterday I phoned Icarus for some advice about the Crossfire we were re-lining.Icarus said that the lines on a few Crossfires built by Precision were a bit longer than normal. The problem has been corrected and now Precision is building lines exactly according to Icarus specs. On a general note: when a canopy bucks during a fornt riser dive, it is telling you that you are pulling too hard, and it does not want to fly that deep in front risers. weid14 0 #4 September 6, 2001 Icarus is making all the new crossfires non cascaded on A/B lines. The only time it was an issue (for me) was an aggressive front riser approach. Mine was totally re-lined - it flies excellent.
weid14 0 #5 September 6, 2001 I know that (bucking), that's why I called them. They re-lined and now there are NO A/B cascades. I can bury the front riser no issue now.
