Freeflying with a Full-face

Recommended Posts

What r your opinions on freeflying with a full-face helmet?
I'm having hard time deciding what helmet i want
I had a gath whice i really liked but i forgot to close the chin strap once and it blew off my head and i couldn't find it again
i now jump with my friend's factory diver and i really like it but i don't know if it's "good" to freefly with it
which one do u like more for freeflying?

I personally liuke to freefly with an open face helmet, but you could also remove your visor from that factory diver and use standard goggles with it. Then you will feel the wind on your face but still have that extra face/chin protection factory diver gives you.

Hey Omri!!
I used to use a Gath all the time, but have started using my Z1 for freeflying with. I love the extra vision that the full face gives me - and the protection!
It's up to you what you wear! Full faces rock for me!

I wear my Z1 while freeflying and I really like it. I had the same question when I started freeflying so I asked an experienced freeflyer why he didn't wear a full face. He said he just like to be able to see other peoples faces - smiling and geeking! But full face works great. It's up to you what you feel more comfortable with. Cheers!

"It's more sad then funny dude!"
Well, I've been doing enough bashing on other posts. Laid the AK down for a minute to let the barrel cool off. Let me know how the full face works. Might be nice on a cool winters day.

Hey Omri. I love my full-face helmet, especially on those cold days or the days that there are some ice crystals in the air up at altitude. And, I am a fan of not showing off my free-fall cheeks (unless they are on my butt :D )
I would go for the Z1 or the Oxygen that have the flip up visor though. I have the Carbon Fire and even on the warm days, it tends to fog up if you don't breathe properly in it. I would hate to have to ditch the helmet on a jump some day instead of just flipping up the visor. :)Tee

Interesting point is that Ben only felt he needed extra protection after he started sit-flying with me! ;)
Ben you up for some more kamikaze hand-to-hand aerial combat? (after all skydiving IS a full-contact sport!!!)

S,
True, I felt the Gath didn't offer *enough* protection from flailing limbs on the way out of the door! The Z1 at least gives me a chance of not getting a black eye; it also gives *excellent* vision compared to using goggles!

How about some sitflying instead???

I freefly with my Oxygen A3. I removed the visor because it was causing the helmet to become loose due to drag in a sit. I now have no problems with the velcro coming loose. I also have friends that have sewn velcro clear to the end of the strap so none is free flapping in the wind. The extra protection is the best. Ya you can't see everyone geeking the camera but we still have all our teeth.
