Packing the Silhouette

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new used rig (BEER!) and haven't jumped it yet. I got a MirageG3 with a Silhouette 230. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't roll the nose when packing a Silhouette. Anyone jumped one or have one that can share. Anything special about the packjob?
Woohoo! I can't wait to jump my first rig.

Congrats, Wesley! I have owned a 210 Silhouette for over a year now. I put 4 rolls into the nose, but I don't tuck it into the centre cell... I Pro-pak it, and don't do anything "special" to it. I like a moderately slow opening, and with around 400 jumps on my canopy (only the last 70 or so by me), that's exactly what I am geting! Nothing else unusual to report -- just be careful up there, and have fun!

I'm jumping a Silhouette 150. It's got the most beautiful opening out of all the canopies I've jumped. I pro-pack, don't roll the nose, and roll the tail tight. The opening snivels just a tiny bit even if the nose is not rolled. If I roll the nose on mine, it will snivel for a long time.

I've got a Silhouette 170 I've put close to 200 jumps on. I PRO pack it, leave the nose out (don't even push it back) and put maybe 3-4 rolls in the tail - I wouldn't dream of rolling the nose as the openings tend towards snivelly already. Wing loading might be a factor here since I'm pretty lightly loaded at around 1.1:1. I've yet to have what I would consider a hard opening on it, and maybe only 1-2 slightly brisk ones. I've also tried a Psycho pack on it (although PD doesn't recommend this) but I didn't really notice any difference so I decided to stick with the standard PRO pack.
