skreamer 1 #1 July 31, 2001 I know there was a thread earlier about washing containers, my problem is a little different. I have a newish rig (30 jumps). Lent it to a friend, when I got it back it had some white gluey substance on it. We suspect it was from duct tape in the plane. It was suggested to me that I use Benzine to get the glue off - is this a good or bad idea?
weid14 0 #2 July 31, 2001 where the heck are you going to get pure benzene? besides being flammable, combustable and cancer causing it is a really good de-greaser, not sure about adhesive though and not sure how it would react to the vaious nylons and cloth used to make your rig - it's been awile since I worked around that particular chemical. You may want to call the tape manufacturer and ask them, they have 800 numbers for that sort of thing.
alan 1 #3 July 31, 2001 Call the manufacturer of the rig or have your rigger do it, but that is the only answer to your question. They can and will tell you the approved method for removing adhesive residue and/or cleaning. Happy trails.alan
BadDog 0 #4 August 12, 2001 I get this on my rigs all the time (from duct tape). It comes right off with a damp sponge and Goo Gone (available in several places, like discount stores, grocery stores, etc.).CorporateLawyerDave aka BadDog

DBTECH 0 #7 August 13, 2001 I recommend a product called Carbosol made by Sunnyside for adhesive removal from a container. It is available in many hardware stores. The one quart can is white/yellow/blue. It does contain Triclorethelene which is a known carcinogen, but is ultra mild compared to Benzene, which is a big NO-NO. (Yes, Goo-Gone may also work)Skies,Dave Brownell
