dove 0 #1 July 8, 2001 I have been using tube stoes since my last reserve repack when the rigger put them on my main D-bag. I absolutely love them! But I have heard some people at the DZ talk very negatively about them. I was wondering if any of the riggers out there had an opinion. And if you don't like them, is it just a matter of preference, or one of safety? Thanks for any input you may have!
pyke 0 #2 July 8, 2001 I think you'll find that like Cypres, full face helmets, and booties...EVERYONE has an opinion about them!!If they work for you...stick with them. But I am not a rigger and you were seeking riggers advice, so good luck!Kahurangi e Mahearangi,PykeNZPF A - 2584
Kris 0 #3 July 9, 2001 I love Tube-Stoes for my locking stoes but I use standard rubber-bands for the rest of the bag. Kris
PhreeZone 20 #4 July 9, 2001 Theory goes that if you get a bag lock the rubber bands can snap and clear the bag lock while the tougher tube stows will keep everything there.... Never had it happen and I never got around to putting tube stoes on my rig....Whoa... That was cool!
dove 0 #5 July 9, 2001 One of the packers mentioned the bag lock scenario to me - but bag locks happen on rigs with rubber bands too! And the tube stoes roll off so easy I just can't see it happening. Also, I am a super-anal packer and am very careful about my stoes. Not that that means I won't ever have a malfunction, but am I putting myself at risk? I love the convenience - they are easy on my hands when packing (us females are so delicate!) and several of the ones on my rig have 50 jumps on them already and none broke before 40! But safety outweighs convenience. Are there lots of documented cases of bag lock from tube stoes?
PhreeZone 20 #6 July 9, 2001 You had tube stows break at 40 jumps? I've seen them go well over 300 jumps without a crack in them. There are some new stows on the market that I'm wanting to try. They are made out of the same stuff as tube stows bat have no seam. They are one single peice of rubber. I think the name is SkyStow. Anyone tried them?Whoa... That was cool! SkymonkeyONE 4 #7 July 9, 2001 I use tube stoes on all my rigs. The only time I use a regular rubber band is when I run out of tube stoes. I have not had a packing malfunction in my 20 years in the sport and have used tube stoes since they came on the market.Chuck
dove 0 #8 July 9, 2001 Thanks! I feel better now. I don't know why people feel obligated to impose their unsolicited opinions on me when I am packing. The stoes have worked great for me so far - so I will keep with them. Thanks for all the helpful input! Cheers!Elisa
