rendezvous 0 #1 June 15, 2001 I'm looking into buying my first gear ( just about to finish AFF ) preferably second hand. Wanted to know whats the deal with buying a Cypres. Should I get a new or a second hand. What do I need to look out for when buying one.
PalmettoTiger 1 #2 June 15, 2001 I think you should buy a used CYPRES. You'll have to replace it sooner, but (like most people) I plan to have more purchasing power 8 years down the road than I do now, so that the earlier replacement date is offset by current savings. If you do decide to buy one used, be aware that if the number of cutters does not match the number of reserve closing loops on your container, you will have to send it to SSK for the conversion. Also, all Cypres units must be returned to the factory 4 and 8 years after their Date of Manufacture, so if you buy a unit manufactured in September of 1997, you would have to ship it to SSK sometime between now and December. The 4-year check takes a few weeks, iirc, and costs approximately $150. (Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong.)The best deal by far to be found on a used Cypres is at http://www.skykat.com. Not only was the unit I bought there at least $100 less than the other used units I'd seen, but it also had 3 years to go before its next factory servicing. The 2-cutter to 1-cutter conversion was complementary, as was shipping.Blues, Squares,PTiger*insert sub-100 character sig here*
NewGuy 0 #3 June 15, 2001 Check out http://www.apf.asn.au/apf_services/images/Cypres_value.gifThe value I belive is in Australian dollars; however, it gives one a rough idea of how to calculate the value of a used Cypres.Cheers,NewGuy
