JohnRich 4 #1 May 3, 2007 I have a list of 50 e-mail servers currently in my e-mail spam filter (image attached). This "mail option" list defines sites from which spam is known to originate, and excludes any messages from those sites automatically, so that they never reach my in-box. I'm trying to add additional server names to the list to exclude further spam messages, and they refuse to be added to the list. No amount of tinkering around with how I do it, changes this. Question #1: Is there a maximum limit of only 50 entries for this list? Question #2: If there is not such a limit, then why won't it let me add additional entries? - John Rich
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 3, 2007 John, instead of the domains, do you have the Advanced scanning turned on too? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=898880Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Eule 0 #3 May 3, 2007 QuoteI'm trying to add additional server names to the list to exclude further spam messages, and they refuse to be added to the list. I don't know the answer to your question. But my observation is that most spammers rotate their "from" addresses enough that filtering on domain names usually doesn't help much. If you have one or two clueless spammers that always send from the same domain, it can help, but in the general case, other kinds of filtering are more useful. Depending on how much spam you get, it might be a useful experiment to copy-and-paste your existing domain list to a text file, then delete the list from dropzone.com, and see how much your spam load goes up. You may find that you've only got one or two domains that are spamming you repeatedly, and that the rest might be better caught by setting up an "advanced" filter. Here's the results:**** : (dropzone.com default) 23 spam messages per day *** : 10 spam messages per day ** : 5 spam messages per day * : no spam messages, but it also filters out good stuff. So I'm sticking with x-spam-level:**
 JohnRich 4 #5 July 19, 2007 Re: Spam e-mail I give up. I've implemented X-Spam level filtering at the maximum level. I've added "advanced scanning" to filter out messages containing spam key words, to the maximum number of entries allowed. And I've added "advanced scanning" to filter out server names from which spam originates, to the maximum number of entries allowed. And despite all that, my in-box is still infested with spam, to the point that I am no longer interested in sifting through the reams of junk to see the few legitimate gems. I am therefore abandoning this e-mail address. Moderators: Sorry about the waste of 3 meg of disk space. You may delete it any time you wish. I hate to waste 3 meg of Sangiro's space, but that's where I'm at. I suppose that messages from spam senders which are undelivered and kick-back, don't cause them to remove your name from their e-mail list, since it doesn't really cost them anything. They'll probably just happily keep sending stuff there forever...
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
