IanHarrop 42 #1 January 20, 2005 As lark I thought I would take a look at the guestbook. There are a lot of entries there that are listings of URLs that look like they come from over seas. I don't know if strange things in the guestbook indicate bots trying to get into the site, but I hear much web site attacks originating from off shore. Someone may want to investigate and/or delete junk from the guestbook."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
sangiro 26 #2 January 20, 2005 Yup - the spammers seem to hit it as fast as I clean it up. It's automated so i'll have to switch to a new application for the guestbook that provides more protection. Safe swoops Sangiro
AndyMan 7 #3 January 24, 2005 Have you heard about the Google URL attribute rel="nofollow" ? It's part of Google's attempts to reduce BLOG comment spam - which I think would also help here. http://www.google.com/googleblog/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html The nutshell, is that if you add rel="nofollow" to your anchors, Google will not use that link in pageRank. This discourages spammers from posting to your guestbook, in the hopes of boosting their google score. MSN and Yahoo are implementing similar filters. It would be smart to add rel="nofollow" to URL's posted in Guestbook comments.. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
