BigM 2 #1 June 2, 2004 Not sure where to post this but maybe someone who knows how to stop this will see it here and give a reply. I was just checking something on my profile. There is a place in your profile to list your own "home page" if you have one. (I don't, therefore mine is blank.) I notice that there is something listed in mine- a web site for some porno page. I did not... I repeat I DID NOT put that in my profile. Anyone else have this happen to them? Anyone know how to prevent it? Thanks in advance. There's no way that Sangiro would ever do that and he's the only one who has access to edit those fields. I wonder if Spyware could have done it somehow. Regardless, delete it and if it comes back, report it in the Errors Forum. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
PhreeZone 20 #4 June 2, 2004 There is probally an issue with spyware and some other things. The classifieds have that pop up from time to time also. And its always porn sites that are added. There is the very stong possibility of spyware so clean your PC's and if it still happens report it again.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
sangiro 26 #5 June 2, 2004 QuoteThere is an issue with the database on the back end. Whoa! No there's not. There are several spyware applications that will write information to fields when you edit a form. This simply means that if you have one of those programs resident on your PC it will add a site to fields that it can recognize (like fields with the name "web site") while you may be updating your profile with other information. Clean up your PC. As for the Classifieds POP ups. I have never seen one, and I'm on here a lot. I have several computers but also frequently scan my computers with the latest anti-spyware applications. I'd like to understand how the DB can pop up an ad? Again, spyware key's off URLs all the time. Clean up your PC. Go here to download Ad-aware for free. Update the definition files often and run it at least weekly if you use the internet a lot. If you visit more risky sites (like porn or warez) a lot then run it more frequently! Nobody can 'write' to the database without being logged in and their certainly is nothing in the database that will just randomly pop up an ad. My servers are very closely managed and checked all the time. Dropzone.com runs on the latest stable versions of Linux OS and Apache Web Server. We don't suffer from every second virus that decides to attack Microsoft servers. If you are aware of any security threat that may cause this kind of behavior on my platform feel free to point me in that direction and I will do whatever it takes to specifically look into that possibility.Safe swoops Sangiro
PhreeZone 20 #6 June 2, 2004 Sorry.. I did not mean that the database had issues at all. There are no pop ups that I have ever recieved off this site, but the fields are the same ones that at least 3 peices of spyware use that I have had experience with. They are keying on the HTTP field specifically. I'll PM the information to you about the issues that I was seeing.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
