I don't remember the magic to make it look the same to you as it does to everyone else, but logging off and on again, or shutting down and coming back up again, should do it. The avatar thingy is stored as a cookie, and even if you upload a new one while the old cookie is still in place it won't change! You gotta delete them cookies!
