blackfox 0 #1 August 20, 2008 There needs to be a better way to view old posts and threads other that just searching for key words!!!!!!!!! There are currently 187240 threads, and in the future this number will only increase. Imagine all the information that is contained in all those posts that is not being read. Searching for a key words often will return search results that are all in the same thread, it can take literaly hours to find a simple answer to a question. It often cause people to post the same questions over and over, and then some moderator will answer by saying do a search, this in general spreads a lot of negativity within the forum. We need to act now to further catagorize all the thread, specifically. Perhaps at the very least we should change the seach engine to search for threads and not individual posts that are all in the same thread.
pchapman 279 #2 August 20, 2008 Agreed - one needs to be able to choose between seeing listings for every damn post, or just the thread they are in. Also, the way the arrows and page numbers are done could be changed to allow easier skimming through pages. For example, if I want to look through the Rigging forum, it shows << < 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ... 232 > >> While I can view things page by page, I can't, let's say, go back and easily skim over topics that were being discussed in say 2005. Why would I want to? Perhaps I wasn't reading much on DZ.com that year or wanted to see what attitudes were at that time about a fast changing aspect of our sport. Admittedly, this is not as important a task for most people than to have an efficient Search function. As it works out, I can select page 9, then page 13, then 17... it would take forever to go back far enough.
PhreeZone 20 #3 August 20, 2008 You do have the option to exclude the replies from your searches by using "-re:" in your searches. This will only return a result if the root post matches your search critera. Issue with that is you are really limiting your results since if someone was searching for "Altimeter caught on fire" this post would not appear at all since it is not returning any post with Re: in it like this title has in it.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
