PhreeZone 20 #1 June 9, 2005 Would it be possible to eliminate the hyperlinks in the signatures? It seems like some people are using it again as backdoor advertising to skirt the no advertising clause in the fourms. It would just be a whole lot easier if the hyperlinks would be turned off for there.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AggieDave 6 #2 June 10, 2005 Although I used hyperlinks for a good joke a while back in my signature, I would definately agree with you in this regard. Since the advent of the new forums in 2001 folks have been using hyperlinks for free advertising. Although I could simply turn the signature off for everyone, it is nice to read most folks signature. Usually their witty or funny, although some other folks are definately using this to their advantage for advertising. It would be possible for users to simply PM HH or one of the greenies about users abusing their signature privlages instead of killing the privlage for all.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." TomAiello 26 #3 June 10, 2005 I'm of two minds on this. As a user, I really like being able to place hyperlinks in my signature. I think contact hyperlinks are pretty useful, especially for new users who need help, or people who just have an off the cuff thought to share privately. I click to get to a PM is just easier, and hence more likely to be used. As a moderator, I agree with Phree. Signature hyperlinks are often abused, and the fact that they are a global feature means that we always have to bump problems with them up the food chain, rather than taking care of them quickly. Which added step means that I'm more likely to let things in signatures slide. I dunno. I can see it both ways. I guess that given a "send PM to" tag on posts, on balance, I'd say get rid of them.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
bbarnhouse 0 #4 June 10, 2005 As this site is supported with primarily advertising dollars, I am also of two minds on this issue. If a someone is abusing the "no advertising" clause then it should be removed. I do not however wish to see those that are following the rules penalized. The again..this ain't no damn democracy
