TomAiello 26 #1 September 12, 2004 I wonder if it would be possible to post a classified ad into multiple categories without having to retype all the information? For example, if one wanted to sell a pair of Birdman BASE Track Pantz, you might conceivably type the add in three times--once in BASE gear, once in Wingsuits, and once in Jumpsuits. It would save a lot of repetition if the ad submission form just had a checkbox for "second category" that allowed you to select a second category (or perhaps a third). Anyway, just a thought.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
dragon2 2 #2 September 12, 2004 Wonder where you got that example But yeah, retyping (copying) is kindof a pain. What I'd also like is leaving the 'category' field blank by default, so that if you forget, it gives you an error. Right now a lot of classifieds end up in the default 'AAD' (did that once myself of course ) ciel bleu, Saskia
TomAiello 26 #3 September 12, 2004 QuoteWonder where you got that example I have a keyword notifier set up to send me an email whenever someone posts and ad with the word "BASE". I got three notices about your ad, and thought "whoa, somethings got to be wrong with the system, here..."-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
sangiro 26 #4 September 12, 2004 The point about posting to multiple categories is taken. In all honesty though, I would prefer people to post an ad to one category only... Pick the best category, not all of th categories where it may fit. If anything, I'd like to discouage multi-category posting (as it often border on spamming) This example is a good one though... for 2 of the categories. I don't see how it's a wingsuit and it should probably be removed from that category. Also, I'm not sure how the notifications will respond to a multi-category (single) post. Will have to look into that. You may still get 3 reminders.Safe swoops Sangiro
TomAiello 26 #5 September 12, 2004 QuoteI don't see how it's a wingsuit and it should probably be removed from that category. I went to remove it and got this message back from the editor: QuoteSorry, you are not authorized to perform this action. On the original topic, perhaps you ought to just make "one ad per item, find the category you think is best" the policy? Then we can remove the BASE one, too? I'm just thinking that there's an awful lot of stuff that could, conceivably get double posted into BASE gear (reserve canopies, helmets, camera gear, tracking suits, etc). Also, with the booming market in tracking wear, perhaps it deserves it's own category distinct from jumpsuits?-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
sangiro 26 #6 September 12, 2004 QuoteAlso, with the booming market in tracking wear, perhaps it deserves it's own category distinct from jumpsuits I've been thinking about the possibility of sub-categories for a while. It may make sense now that the volume of ads have become so huge. I'm working on some FAQs for the Classifieds. I'll add some posting guidelines into that as well. The "one post per item" rule will most likely make it in there. I'll look at your permissions.Safe swoops Sangiro
PhreeZone 20 #7 September 12, 2004 I delete ads of people posting a main in "Mains", "Complete systems" and "AAD's" Only one ad per item. Sort it by owner and nuke all but the one that fits the best.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skybytch 273 #8 September 13, 2004 The jumpsuit category worked great for me - I posted my Pantz there on Saturday and sold 'em this morning. Less than 48 hours from posting the ad to sold. Not bad... not bad at all.
