sangiro 26 #1 April 28, 2004 If you use the Dropzone.com Mail application, then this poll is for you. if not, please just give it a skip. I'm still looking for ways to fight spam more effectively. As you know SpamAssassin assigns a "spam value" to each message. If the value is over 5 it marks the message with ***** SPAM ***** in the subject line. You can then use this to filter likely spam to a special folder. I'm considering deleting everything that scores a 5 from the server and never passing it on to you. This will allow you to filter on something more granular (for examle those messages that score only 3) but it also has the potential of catching a few legitimate emails. In most cases a legitimate email will VERY seldom score 5. It may however happen when you for subscribe to a mailing list which sends out its newsletters as rich HTML files. SpamAsssassin will likely mark something with a lot of HTMl and images as spam. So what are your thoughts?Safe swoops Sangiro
skymama 37 #2 April 28, 2004 Please do something. I have the filter set up and I still delete at least 300 spam e-mails a week. I use this account in my profile and sometimes people write to me in e-mail instead of pm's if they have a question about the site. It's a real pain to surf through all the spam to find legitimate mail. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
slotperfect 7 #3 April 28, 2004 I have the filter set up that way as well, and my InBox is still crammed with spam every day. Anything that will automatically delete obvious spam messages is great with me.Arrive Safely John
Jib 0 #4 April 28, 2004 I have ***spam*** deleted (and still get spammed to death). So, it wouldn't negatively impact me at all. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. AndyMan 7 #5 April 28, 2004 I administer Spam Assassin on a network with 50 or so users. On average, we'll get about 5 false-positives in spam-assassin per month. What I've done is I create a folder called "Bulk-email", and have all SA positives put there. This keeps users happy because it keeps the emails out of their INBOX, but it also doesn't delete the messages. Quotas ensure that people go into their Bulk-email folder periodically to delete spam. This is when they peruse their messages looking for false positives, so that they can move those mesages before deleting. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. flyangel2 2 #6 April 29, 2004 Wow, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't get any spam and I've been using my e-mail account a lot. BTW Sangiro, did you get my PM asking about my e-mail account allowing more MB while I'm working on this calendar?May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. skymick 0 #7 April 30, 2004 Is it possible to add in functionality to allow users to change the value themselves? At the ISP I work at we allow this and it works pretty well.
hookitt 1 #8 May 1, 2004 I've set up a spam filter but the messages don't get marked as spam so they sit in my inbox. It's 100% full so for now, I've quit using it. I'll clear it out in a week or 2 and see how it goes.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
sangiro 26 #9 May 1, 2004 QuoteI've set up a spam filter but the messages don't get marked as spam so they sit in my inbox. It's 100% full so for now, I've quit using it. I'll clear it out in a week or 2 and see how it goes. All messages that score above 5 gets marked as SPAM, whether you have a filter set or not. If you're not seeing any then I suspect your filter is working... Those that you are still seeing are the spam messages scoring under 5! Forward me one of your SPAM messages (mark it clearly) and I'll take alook at it...Safe swoops Sangiro
