Actually I am getting a bit better each time I pack it. I can get the bag closed and have barely any canopy show now. I lost count this weekend I drug it out so many times. I have found some tips here and there (some good ones in the New canopy thread too) that makes it a bit easier. The only thing I am having to work on now is stowing the lines. Aerodyne wants you to use these tiny 1 1/4" (yes, that is squished flat not diameter) rubber bands I can't even get my finger through without stretching them open and it is a real bear to get even microline through them without getting slack and disarray in them. I may ask the rigger if I can switch them with a little larger band for the locking stows (2 on my bag) since they have to go through grommets AND around the lines. Your right about being easy with it getting the air out, or it WILL blow the packjob apart. I don't roll the nose, just leave it hang and make sure the front edge of the slider is pulled out in front of the cell openings as by the book. I do roll the tail like you do though to help contain the bundle. I will try this out and see how I like the openings and tune it from there. I am somewhat used to brisk openings on the student gear so I should be loving this canopy for sure.
Thanks to everyone who responded.

I actually tried some of Aerodyne's new Superbandz but ended up chickening out and taking them off before even trying them because they were sssooo tight! I had to use a power tool to even pull the lines through it was so tight, and there was no way I could get my fingers in there to pull them through. So I just put some slightly bigger rubberbands back on. *shrug* It might've been fine...wish I could tell ya, but decided to stick with tried and true for now :) Jumping my own pack job for the first time was nerve-racking enough without trying something new :)

I hate to rehash an old thread but several of you have recently bought Triathlons and have had some time to make a few jumps. Mine just came in a 175 and I'm hoping (weather permitting) to jump it this weekend. What did you guys end up with for packing? Have you tried several methods? I'm thinking of a standard pro-pack roll the nose a little, roll the tail a little more kinda of thing what do you all think? How have your openings been? Have a safe weekend.

Hey cloud9,
I don't do anything special when packing my Triathalon. I did tuck three cells on each side into the center of the pack job and left the nose open. This gave me really soft openings and about 800ft snivels. I just leave the nose open and still get about 600-800ft and soft openings. I would say try a few rolls of the nose, but leave the tail alone. Then if you get too much snivel you could try less rolls of the nose, or none at all. Some canopies just open faster than others too. My triathalon is a 160 that is well broken in, so your openings will probably be a bit quicker. I think you will enjoy your triathalon. I am loading mine about 1.2 and have lots of fun with it.

I have 200 jumps on my Triathlon 150, I am 150 lbs so I load it at 1.2 ish.. For packing, it really doesn't matter how you do it. Psycho, Pro, Flat, I've done them all and gotten the same results. Only had one banger that rang my bell due to what I know was line dump. Keep your stows at 2-3" and double wrap the rubber bands on the last stow. Don't use tube stows as they don't break like the rubber bands are made to. I have rolled the nose completely and have not rolled the nose at all. Doesn't make that much difference with the Triathlon loaded under 1.5.. It's normally going to be smooth and pretty much on heading if you are balanced in the harness at opening. AWSOME for accuracy, AWSOME on landing, AWSOME for packing, AWSOME for forgiveness, AWSOME into the wind, AWSOME in choppy air and turbulence!! I wouldn't suggest a better first canopy for your first 200 jumps or so. You can sit up high in almost full brakes waiting for your turn to land, I like that :) Don't hook this canopy, the recovery arc is too small and you are likely to get hurt. Carves are fun though!! I HIGHLY recommend the Triathlon!! It makes you feel VERY safe in the air, even in chop....

Pammi,
I've been using those bands for a LONG time :) They will break if they have to by design. Tight stows are good, they prevent line dump... Good stows are VERY necessary if you want good openings on this canopy..

Well I have about 35 jumps on my Triathlon now, and couldn't agree more with Rhino. Opens smooth on heading and soft. I dont roll the nose just roll the tail enough to control the frabric. Best landings I've ever had.
I was a cross country with 3 other guys. 1 stiletto, and two sabres. The stiletto and the triathlon made it back. The two sabres did not.
This canopy is a lot of fun!
