First post timestamp in incidents

Recommended Posts

As the Incidents forum matures and fills up with more announcements (unfortunate but likely) it's going to become more and more difficult to tell them apart. "New England Fatality" for instance is pretty generic. "Emergency Exit". "Mistake...lesson learned". These topics are going to repeat themselves and get confusing.

Since these threads refer to specific incidents (and people's specific friends) I think it would be useful to mark each thread with a starting date. (i.e.: "Emergency Exit [Jul 16, 2002]".)

You might want to make a thread in that forum saying what you just said, yes you said it here (its a great idea, btw), but I'm very willing to bet that some people don't read this forum.

Time stamping subject lines only really pays off if everyone does it. As all posts do have dates associated I think the solution here is for me to provide a way to sort by date. I'll get onto this when I have time. Remember, I'm not trying to create a database or spot to track incidents - just one to discuss them and learn lessons. I hope most of these lessons will be rather timeless....

What I was suggesting is for the forum posts list to display the date the thread was initiated. Asking people to timestamp their own is a way to do the same thing without bothering you.

Currently a lot of space is devoted to showing the complete date and time of the last post in the thread. It seems to me the date and time of the first post in the thread is at least as useful.
