jenni 0 #1 May 15, 2001 I am in the process of buying a new set of gear and am about to buy a new main canopy. My last 100 or so jumps have been on a Sabre 150. I have been looking at the Safire 119 or 129 but the issue is that I would like to start skysurfing in the next 50-100 jumps and don't want to find that I need a different canopy again. If anyone has any tips or hints about this could you please let me know. Thanks - blue skiesJen
cyberskydive 0 #2 May 15, 2001 Well if you're wondering about the safires openings, one word, BUTTER_LOLD.Chisolm C-28534webmaster@sunraydesigns.comhttp://www.sunraydesigns.com
Grogs 0 #3 May 15, 2001 I don't know what type of characteristics you'd look for in a canopy for skysurfing, but I'll agree about the openings. The only person I know who jumps a Safire packs it with the nose fully exposed (not pushed back, rolled, etc.) and still gets great soft openings. After packing the sabre for 100 jumps and all the pickiness that you usually have to do packing it to keep it from snapping you on opening you'll love the Safire. mountainman 0 #4 May 16, 2001 If I were you I would email Tanya Garcia O’Brien from Perris Skydiving in Cali. She is the World Champion and could probably give you a great recommendation on buying new gear if you want to start skysurfing. I am also VERY interested in skysurfing when I get the experience necessary. Click here for her website with e-mail. Also, click here for a great article on learning to skysurf and what you should know before.Hope this helps you!!And let me know what you find out!! DBTECH 0 #5 May 16, 2001 You may want to consider one of these in a 120 or smaller.http://www.extremefly.com/ Dave Brownell
Pammi 0 #6 May 17, 2001 Isn't the wait time on a Cobalt right now at least 6 months? Just curious, because if I ever wanted to try it, I would probably want to request it way in advance...."The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." http://trak.to/skydivechick
DBTECH 0 #7 May 17, 2001 No way six months! My custom color Cobalt 135 was done in four weeks!I believe they are running about 5-6 weeks now to your door. (custom colors)Dave Brownell
Pammi 0 #8 May 17, 2001 Oh, I'm sorry...I meant if you wanted to demo one...."The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." http://trak.to/skydivechick
SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 May 17, 2001 WHO said that the wait on a Cobalt is six months!? Try FOUR WEEKS in custom colors. My last one was to me in TWO WEEKS. In comparison, my old VX took three months. Either way, there are plenty of "straight and soft" opening mains, to include the Cobalt and Safire. The Crossfire would be my choice of Icarus canopy though; I am not a fan of Safire landings.
