New Jumper

Recommended Posts

I want to go skydiving when i turn 16. I live in NJ. My father was in the SEALs so he knows how to dive and i think is going with me but i am not definate. I wanted to know if i can go for like a day and jump? I probably have to take classes but do i just have to get oriented with the equipment and can i jump? or do i have to go and go a few times?
Thanks
Alex

Go for it, Alex!
Where in NJ are you? There are some really great places to go in the Garden State, depending on what is convenient.
There are a few different programs you should consider. Some are better suited for a one-day outing to see if it's your thing, and others are better if you intend to stick with the sport (oh, God. Mothers don't let your sons grow up to be skydivers!)
In any case, you shouldn't hesitate to take a trip out to a local dropzone and see what is going on. Talk to the people there, see what various people are doing, be a pest. Then, when you turn 16, you will know what you want to do.
Also, check out Omri's article at the front of this site. He started flying in a wind tunnel when he was four, or something, which made his training really progress quickly.
Welcome!
