riggerrob 643 #1 April 1, 2010 Was Skydive Whistler the first to operate a "green" wind tunnel? When I was up there last week, WTO Mr. Smith explained to me the workings of their water-powered wind tunnel. He explained that they started with an old mine works, overlooking the town of Mount Curie. They reworked the plumbing so that a giant, concrete tank filled with air, then allowed water to pressurize the tank, then released the air into an old chimney. The first few tires, airspeed varied widely from start to finish, but as they installed and improved honeycomb, and screens, venturi, valves, etc. they eventually managed to get a minute's worth of steady airflow (100 to 160 miles per hour) out of one tank of air. Then they had to wait a couple of minutes to re-pressurize the air tank. With the recent installation of their second air tank, They can do back-to-back sessions of one minute each. The second air tank is even "greener" than the first, since it is made of hemp. You can tell - by smell - when they switch air tanks.

rehmwa 2 #3 April 1, 2010 I think any tunnel owner should be allowed to paint his facility any color he wants ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
