RB_Hammer 0 #1 November 30, 2006 I am thinking of booking 15 minutes of tunnel time to learn to belly fly better. I have only 2 jumps, first was a tandem and second was AFF 1. I can't jump again for a week and a half and I was wondering if it would be helpful at all to get some tunnel time and a coach."I'm not lost. marcandalysse 0 #2 November 30, 2006 Definitely it is worth it! Check out the many threads about it in the Wind Tunnel Forum! mp "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

Tell the tunnel staff when you arrive that you are an AFF student and they will tailor your time to working on those specific skills. Chuck
RB_Hammer 0 #4 November 30, 2006 I just called and reserved a 15 minute block with a coach. I told them I am an AFF student and they said that 15 minutes was a long time to be in the tunnel. I really did not have any other options for time though, since the only smaller block of time is for the 'ride'. They did say that they would mark my time as looking to share, so maybe I will get to share the time with someone else. I am in pretty good shape, I go to the gym every weekday for at least an hour. Is it really going to be too much for me to be in the whole 15 minutes?"I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Reginald 0 #5 November 30, 2006 You will not be able to do 15 minutes from begining to end. it is typical practice to do 2 minute rotations. This works well when shared with others. I've never heard of a tunnel not being able to accomidate sharing. have fun, you will love it and learn a lot!"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. Jewels 0 #6 November 30, 2006 Take a friend--or maybe another AFF student. That's a whole group of likely candidates right there!TPM Sister #
RB_Hammer 0 #7 November 30, 2006 I would love to do that, but I have already reserved the time for tomorrow night at 7:00pm at SkyDive AZ and I don't have any skydiving friends yet. The only AFF students I have met at my home DZ I have no contact info for... I guess I just have to hope the tunnel finds some people that might want to split/share the time with me. Friday night, I would think there is a good chance."I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Jewels 0 #8 November 30, 2006 I think you're right. Tunnel time is valuable stuff! Good luck. (I'd help you out with that myself, but the commute is too far! )TPM Sister #

Is it really going to be too much for me to be in the whole 15 minutes? You will not be in there alone for 15 straight - you will rotate with other tunnel flyers for either 30 minutes or an hour - most likely. (every other 2 minute session for the 30 minute visit - or, better, every 4th 2 minute session for the hour session). Someone that is in good shape will not have any problems with either of those scenarios - the half hour visit will still tire you a bit, but not past the point of still learning good stuff within each 2 minute turn. Stretch a lot, bring a water bottle with you too. An hour in there is very dehydrating. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

RB_Hammer 0 #12 December 1, 2006 That is correct. I am in AZ. I have already reserved the tunnel time for tonight. I am really looking forward to the coaching and improving my skills."I'm not lost. RB_Hammer 0 #13 December 2, 2006 Just got back from my tunnel session. Couldn't find anyone to share or split my time, so I did end up doing the whole 15 minutes by myself with my coach. The coach I had was really great. Thanks a bunch Mick! I had 2 30 to 45 second breaks, other than that, I was in the wind for the 15 minutes. Major work that was. Did not help that I am about as flexable as a 2x4. Mick gave me some streches to do and I will be doing those every day. I know the time I spent was well worth the money. I am sure I will be a much better flyer when I do my next AFF 2 jump. I know now why so many people love tunnel flying so much. Amazing feeling! Loved seeing the coaches fly. Hard to beleive they can do those things and make it look so natural and effortless. For sure going to have to get back in the tunnel when I can. Thanks to all for the advice."I'm not lost. sartre 0 #14 December 2, 2006 Sorry I know this is a little late, but if you're doing you AFF at Eloy, they can arrange a special rate and a smaller chunk of time for you. Sounds like you managed just fine, but you'll probably be pretty sore tomorrow. It's sure fun though, isn't it?
 RB_Hammer 0 #15 December 2, 2006 I am doing my AFF at Desert Skydiving Center in Buckeye. I did my first jump, a tandem, at Eloy and once I knew I was going to pursue this sport, I decided to check all of the DZ's Phoenix area out. I chose Buckeye for my AFF. You are right, I do feel like I did really good, and I am SORE! I am going to get in a hot tub as soon as I get back home from my MC ride and do some stretching. Tunnel is a major blast! For sure going back when I get some funds together. I will be talking to people at the DZ and see if I can get some to go and split the time though. Even though I was able to handle the entire 15 minutes myself, and I did get a lot of benefit from it, I think having a break between sessions and watching others will make the experience better."I'm not lost.
